The Double Curse of Bill Buckner

Photo: Buckner Curse

Bill Buckner, is the infamous first baseman of Red Sox lore, who allowed a ground ball to slip through his legs in Game Six of the 1986 World Series.

As many people know the Mets went on to win the game and Series. Buckner was the biggest ‘goat’ in Sox history until they were able to break the curse of the Bambino and win the World Series in 2006.

ESPN Page 2 has discovered that Buckner was double cursed on that fateful day. A zoomed in photo (see above) from that day shows that he was wearing a Chicago Cubs batting glove.

Buckner had once upon a time played for the Cubs. It must have been his lucky batting glove, but we all know just how un-lucky that batting glove and Buckner was in that dreadful Game 6.

Unlike the Red Sox, the Cubs curse is in tact, as they continue to find ways to lose every season and not even sniff the World Series. Perhaps new manager Lou Piniella can manage the Cubs to their first World Series appearance since 1945, but I doubt it. The Cubs last World Series win was in 1908.
