The St. Louis Cardinals overcame improbable odds to beat the New York Mets and go to the World Series to face the Detroit Tigers. Catcher Yadier Molina hit a two-run homer in the top of the 9th to put the Cards ahead. Inexperienced closer Adam Wainwright came on to get the last outs in the bottom of the ninth. St. Louis won the game 3-1.
