The longest engagement in Hollywood is officially over now that singer Alanis Morissette and actor Ryan Reynolds have broken up.

“Ryan Reynolds and Alanis Morissette have mutually decided to end their engagement,” publicists Dvora Vener and Meredith O’Sullivan said in a joint statement.

“They remain close friends and continue to have the utmost love and admiration for each other. They ask that their privacy be respected surrounding this personal matter.”

The two had been dating for over four years and engaged for a year and a half. Maybe the breakup will inspire Morissette to put out another great album like 1995′s Jagged Little Pill. It would be kind of ironic don’t you think?
