Miss Japan Crowned Miss Universe 2007
Miss Japan, Riyo Mori, was crowned Miss Universe 2007 on Monday night. Over 600 million viewers worldwide tuned in to see who would win the title.
Mori, 20, the 56th winner of the title, was given her $250,000 diamond-and-pearl crown by last year’s winner, Zuleyka Rivera of Puerto Rico, watched by a live audience of 10,000 and some 600 million television viewers worldwide.
During the evening gown parade, Miss USA, Rachel Smith, slipped on the runway and landed on her bottom, although the slip didn’t stop her earning fifth place.
This year’s contest was marked by controversy, with a handful of Mexicans booing Smith in the run-up to the finals because of what they saw as U.S. unfriendliness toward illegal immigrants.
Miss Sweden withdrew from the pageant earlier in the week over the problematic image the pageant has had in recent months.

miss japan…she is so ugly
Miss Japan didn’t deserve to win Miss Universe 2007. She is so thin, her English is very poor and her gown looked like a bathrub!
The judges have very poor taste!
miss japan is thin because of the diet all japaneses have. she deserve the crown because the judges pick her, she has waht they were looking for the girl next door look. she is beautiful, the dress was a beautiful gucci. so do not misjudges her.
Miss Japan is not very thin. By Japanese standard, she’s considered healthy and not to forget, she’s a ballerina. Ballerinas have to be thin anyway. I think the top 5 were great. Except for Miss USA. She deserved being booed. Any of the top 10 finalists would have been better than her. Why did they pick her to be in top 5???
Perhaps Miss USA was picked for the top five because she was booed and heckled by the Mexicans unmercifully for the entire month of the pageant, yet responded with incredible grace, poise, and courage. No one else had to compete under those conditions of constant mental strain; to pretend there was a level playing field is absurd. How many of us would care to face a hostile mob ten thousand strong?
