Isaiah Washington No Longer On ‘Grey’s Anatomy’
Controversial actor Isaiah Washington will no longer be on the hit ABC TV show Grey’s Anatomy. Washington angered gay and lesbian groups after referring to cast mate T.R. Knight as a faggot on the set of the show. He then used the word again at the Golden Globes when being interviewed with the cast.
Washington’s contract option was not renewed for next season, series producer ABC Television Studios said Thursday.
“I’m mad as hell and I’m not going to take it anymore,” Washington said in a statement released through his publicist, Howard Bragman, without elaboration.
He drew fire after using the anti-gay epithet backstage at the Golden Globe Awards back in January while denying he’d used it previously on the set against cast mate T.R. Knight.
Gay rights groups and cast member Katherine Heigl, who publicly denounced Washington, were among his most vocal critics.
“This is something that will have changed the scope of his life,” Heigl told Entertainment Weekly last month. Washington was “sorry and embarrassed” for the mistake, she said.
Washington tried to make amends and said he was seeking therapy.
He also met with officials from the Gay, Lesbian & Straight Education Network and the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation and filmed a public service announcement in which he said “words have power” to hurt or heal.
In the season finale, Washington’s character Dr. Preston Burke was left at the altar by his fiance Dr. Christina Yang. Burke had cleared all of his prized possessions out of their apartment when Yang returned there in her wedding dress.

As a gay person, I’m PISSED. This is complete and utter cowardice on the part of ABC. If they were going to fire him, they should have done so when the incident occurred. Instead, they wait until their season is finished, and his storyline is neatly tied up before doing so. Absolutely pathetic. I can assure you that I will no longer be giving this show my viewership.
Ah, Mr. Shack, Isaiah’s character was the one who decided not to get married in that last episode. He walked to the back of the church where Sandra Oh’s character was waiting to walk down the aisle and HE called the whole thing off. He was not left at the alter.
Get over it….This is America there will always be bigots!!
Being Gay is not something to be proud of. The Biible makes that clear. Neither is name calling, as we are to love one another, but revile the sin. Homosexuality, Substance abuse - including Alcoholism, Adultery, Verbal and Physical Abuse, and a myriad of other daily activities that we all are a part of - All of us - make it vital that we get back in touch with the spiritual side of ourselves. With God. Anything that separates us from daily communion with God, must be overcome. Even if that means abstinance from our sin. With me it is Alcohol. I fing it extremely troubling that one can not state that homosexuality is unnatural, which it obviously is, or state that it is a violation of my religious rights, which it is - without being called a bigot, a homophobe, or something far worse for simply stating the truth. There is no absolute scientific proof that homosexuality is something you are born with and even if you have a pre-disposition to it, like they say Alcoholics do, you must refrain from it’s practice, or more precisely refrain from sin - after asking God for forgiveness. As Jesus said to the adulteress that He just saved from being stoned to death: “Go and sin no more.” Those that have ears, let them hear.
NO AMERICAN seems to need therapy when other bigoted words are used (N-word,S-word for latinos, wasp word for whites, etc.);so why does gay people get special treatment? REMINDER:the N-word has been ofensive to blacks for centuries. In the 60’s & part of the 70’s the word queer a lot was used for gays—-how old is the word fag%$#t?
black is beautiful created by our our Lord and Savior. homosexuality is sin. everyone has made slurs against another at sometime in their life. Do they deserve to loose their job for it. if so then nobody would have a job. and for heavens sake stop comparing black people to sin! ABC YOUR SO IGNORANT YOU HAVE MORE STRAIGHT VIEWERS THAN GAY SO WHAT ARE YOU WORRIED ABOUT
