Katherine Heigl Set to Produce Films

Actress Katherine Heigl has set her eyes on producing films and has set up a production company in Los Angeles with her mother. Heigl is famous for her role on the hit ABC tv show Grey’s Anatomy.
Heigl and her manager and mother, Nancy Heigl, have formed a production shingle and set up an untitled action-comedy at Fox 2000 that also will serve as an acting vehicle for the actress. Spyglass also is on board to produce the project, whose plot is being kept confidential.
An Emmy nominee this year for “Grey’s Anatomy,” the younger Heigl became a bona fide film star with Universal Pictures’ “Knocked Up,” which has grossed more than $145 million domestically. But even before the film’s release in June, she had been looking to get into producing, hoping to craft a project and work with writers.
For those outside of Hollywood, a movie producer is someone with a lot of money who gets a credit at the start and end of movies they ‘produce’. They might ask for a favor from a friend or insider for their movie as well.
For example: Heigl might call up T.R. Knight and say, “Hey I really had your back during the Washington thing. I am making this horrific $12 million dollar film that will probably only ever be shown overseas. Will you please be in it? Remember I stood beside you when you came out”. You get the idea.
