Rockers don’t get much cooler than Nikki Sixx of Motley Crue. Nikki plays bass and is the principle song writer over the past twenty-five years (let that sink in) for the Crue. The first two cassette singles I ever owned were ‘Dr. Feelgood’ and ‘Kickstart My Heart’. I then went on to plaster my room full of Motley and Nikki Sixx posters and bought ever bit of their music I could find.

As kids, Jon Montoya (guitarist of Saliva) and I, created album covers and a band that never quite got off the ground. I was to play bass, Montoya lead guitar, etc. Nikki was my headbanging hero and I couldn’t wait to play bass and be sleeved with as many tattoos as he had. However, soon after, I made the AAU basketball team in junior high and ball practice took all of the time that was required for piano lessons (a pre-requisite by mom before she would pay for a bass and bass lessons). Nikki has actually written a couple of songs for Saliva.

Nikki has just released his book, ‘The Heroin Diaries’, which is based on a diary Nikki kept for a year in the mid 80’s, while he was battling an intense heroin addiction. During this time he overdosed twice and was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital before being revived and given a second chance at life. The book is very raw, personal and a must read for any addict, former addict, or friend or family member of a loved one battling addiction.
