America’s Next Top Model is where the world met the beautiful Heather Kuzmich, but she will become more famous for more than just her pretty face. Heather has the neurological disorder known as Asperger’s Syndrome.

The disease affects communication skills, social interaction and is a form of autism. Asperger’s was discovered by Hans Asperger in 1944.

But what makes the 21-year-old Ms. Kuzmich different from others with Asperger’s is that for the past 11 weeks, her struggle to cope with her disability has played out on national television.

She is one of 13 young women selected by the supermodel Tyra Banks to compete on the popular reality television show “America’s Next Top Model.” The addition of Heather Kuzmich to an otherwise superficial show has given millions of viewers an unusual and compelling glimpse into the little-understood world of Asperger’s.

The disorder, considered a form of autism, is characterized by unusual social interaction and communication skills.

Heather is already a role model to many with Aperger’s and as her platform grows she will continue to become a hero to millions of women and men around the world.

I know it was a while ago that this cycle aired but I am watching reruns. I LOVE Heather and I am so proud of her. My nephew has Asperger’s and to see Heather do everything that she did not to mention as well as she did gives me hope for him. I just want to say that Heather showed the world that just because you have a disability that often makes people think you dont have as much potential as someone who is “normal” is not true. I dont know that another soul will ever read this but it is now out there.
