National Championship LSU Tigers Cheat Sheet

The LSU Tigers play the Ohio State Buckeyes for the BCS National Championship tonight at 8:00pm EST on Fox.

LSU Tigers (11-2) vs. Ohio State Buckeyes (11-1)

Here is a quick cheat sheet of which Tigers are likely to make big plays tonight.

Glenn Dorsey - DE - Big #72 is the most devastating defensive lineman in the country when he is healthy.  Before he got hurt in the Auburn game, LSU was blowing teams out by double digits, and their defense was making opposing teams look horrible.  The Tigers layoff since their last game should insure that Dorsey will be healthy.  If he is healthy then he will put big pressure on the Ohio State quarterback and also shut down the running game.

Jacob Hester - RB - #18 is the heart and soul of the LSU team.  No other player on the Tigers plays as hard as Jake does.  The Louisiana native is named after John Wayne’s character ‘Big Jake’.  He rushed for over a 1,000 yards while averaging 5.0 yards a carry.  He had eleven touchdowns and doesn’t fumble the football.  If Hester gets a 100 yards in this game the Tigers will easily win.

Matt Flynn - QB - Often LSU wins despite Flynn and sometimes have to win in spite of Flynn’s mistakes.  Les Miles has already said that backup quarterback Ryan Perrilloux will play a good bit in this game.  The mixture of the two quarterbacks should actually benefit Flynn.  It is crucial for Flynn to not turn the ball over and not try to do too much.

Early Doucet - WR - Doucet is healthy or as close as he has been to being healthy since the season started. It will be huge if he can make some big plays early in the game to help free up the running game.  Doucet is a playmaker and can score from any point on the field.

Ali Highsmith - LB - The ‘Grizzly Man’ is a Miami native and has been a four year starter for the Tigers.  He is a hard hitter and is great at helping shut down the passing game.

Craig Steltz - S - He is a big strong safety that is the quarterback of the Tigers defense.  He had several key interceptions during the regular season and is a hard hitter.

Demetrius Byrd - WR - Byrd had 33 catches for nearly 600 yards during the season.  He is one of the more sure handed receivers on the team.  He takes pressure off Doucet and if OSU focuses too much on Early then look for Demetrius to have a big game.

Chad Jones - S - Jones is a super freshman that is going to eventually be a top 5 NFL selection.  He has super speed that allows him to shutdown most wide receivers.

Ryan Perrilloux - QB - Ryan has been in and out of Coach Miles doghouse most of the year.  When he has played, he has looked great.  He led the Tigers to wins over MTSU and against the Tennessee Vols in the SEC Championship game.  He has a powerful arm and can take off and run if the defense puts pressure on him.

Trindon Holliday - RB - Tiny (5′5″) sophomore running back from Baton Rouge that is extremely fast.  If he gets free on the outside he is very likely to take it to the house.

Charles Scott - RB - Scott is a native of Tampa Bay, Florida.  He is the big powerful tailback that mixes it up well with the Tigers flashy and speedy running backs.  Scott will run through you.

Les Miles - Coach - Miles has been very lucky this year.  He is a wild card and extremely unpredictible.  When a coach is lucky, you have to wonder when it will run out.  Miles luck ran out in the Kentucky game when the Tigers lost in triple overtimte.  If you had to pick, between Miles and Buckeyes coach Jim Tressel to win a big game for you, then you would be smart to pick Tressel.  The Tigers have more talent and  hopefully that will be enough to beat the Buckeyes.

Prediction: LSU 31 Ohio State 17
