Felix Trinidad - Roy Jones, Jr. Fight Results

Trinidad Jones Fight Poster

Felix Trinidad 42-3 (35 knockouts) vs. Roy Jones, Jr. 52-4 (38 knockouts)

Jones wore burgundy and gray shorts in honor of his fraternity Tau Kappa Epsilon (TKE). He was initiated into the social fraternity last August. How many geeks get initiated into a college fraternity at 39-years-old without ever having attended college?

Too bad Roy wasn’t hazed in the same way his chickens he raises for cock fighting (which is illegal still). Just ask Mike Vick about it.

Jones had lost three of his last fights coming into this battle with Trinidad.

Trinidad is coming out of his second retirement to fight Jones in Madison Square Garden in New York. Felix hails from Puerto Rico and is the underdog against Jones according to Vegas bookies.

A huge Puerto Rican crowd is in attendance giving Trinidad the home ring advantage. Jones fits the role of the frat boy-villain so well.

RESULTS: Felix Trinidad v. Roy Jones, Jr.

Round 1: Trinidad 10-9: Felix came out strong with a flurry of punches to set an early tone. Jones laid back for most of the round while Trinidad laid a few good punches. Jones was his most active in the final 30 seconds.

Round 2: Trinidad 10-9: Trinidad continues to land solid punches and is looking pretty fast. Lots of missed punches by both fighters. Trinidad again appeared to get the better of Jones in round two with Roy’s best punch coming towards the end of the round on Felix.

Round 3: Trinidad 10-9: Jones is continuing to get beat up on by Trinidad. It is like he is trying to measure him out so he can hopefully knock Felix out with one punch. Jones again landed a right hand as the bell sounded. Jones is talking a lot of trash so far. Felix gets this one again.

Round 4: Jones 10-9: Either Jones didn’t come in with a game plan or else he is saving up a super nitro-charged uppercut for Trinidad because Trinidad continues to be the aggressor and landing punch after punch into Jr. Toward the end of the round Jones woke up and landed several punches to Trinidad’s noggin, knocking him back a bit. Jones finally gets a round.

Round 5: Trinidad 10-9: Trinidad just punched Jones in the nuts and Roy is hot. Felix had been warned earlier but the ref ignored this low blow. One of the best rounds so far as both fighters landed a few punches. Trinidad was just slightly better this round.

Round 6: Trinidad 10-9: Jones is starting to show his age or perhaps he shouldn’t have hit the frat keg party up before the fight. Trinidad continues to be effective with his punches and picking his moments. Several great hooks by Felix. Very strong finish for Jones as he continues to give his best in the last 30 seconds of each round. Another round goes to Trinidad.

Round 7: Jones 10-8: Roy just came out with a fury and knocked Trinidad to the canvas 1, 2, 3……and he is back up. Jones wants to finish him off now that he smells blood. There is the Roy of old. Trinidad was able to recover a bit but the round easily goes to Jones.

Round 8: Jones 10-9: It took half the fight for Jones to wake up but he is alert and still looking to knock Trinidad out…and he just might. Trinidad won the middle of this round and then Jones started unleashing on his boy toy once again. Hard to make a call in this round as Trinidad seems to be landing more punches, but Jones punches are much harder. Toss up, I’ll give it to the aggressor.

Round 9: Trinidad 10-9: Trinidad appears to have regained some of his energy he had early on in the fight. He is not landing too much but he is for sure more active this round. Jones is actually landing some punches to Felix’s head. When Roy lands a punch it is doing damage. Trinidad probably landed more punches but with less pop. A pretty close round. I will give this one to Felix since I gave the last close one to Roy.

Round 10: Jones 10-8: Felix is starting to show a lot of fatigue and is bent over a bit. Maybe it’s a ruse to fool Jones. He finally gets Jones against the robes and lands some of his better punches so far in the fight. Jones isn’t throw off much as he comes back and knocks Trinidad down for the second time. Jones easily gets this one.

Round 11: Jones 10-9: Jones is against the ropes again but a tired Trinidad is not doing too much so far. Both fighters appear tired. Jones is trying to not doing anything stupid as he has this fight locked up if it goes the distance. Trinidad needed to be aggressive and win this round to have a chance. Since he held back I have to give it to Jones.

Round 12: Jones 10-9: This one is going the distance. Trinidad needs a knockout to probably win this fight. Someone in Felix’s corner must have forgot to tell him he is behind because there is no action coming from him. Jones is playing this round smart, knowing he has the fight in the bag. Finally Trinidad throws a few punches that land but they are softer than Charmin. He is tired and done. For good measure Jones lands a few more punches to Trinidad’s skull to conclude the fight and victory for Roy-Roy.

WINNER: Roy Jones, Jr. 114 - 112
