Memphis Tigers #1 Ranked College Basketball Team

The AP and Coaches Poll agree that the Memphis Tigers are now the #1 ranked team in college basketball. The change in the polls was expected after the North Carolina Tar Heels lost on Saturday to Maryland at home. Memphis smoked Southern Miss 83-47 on the same night.
Memphis is one of just two teams remaining undefeated at 17-0. Â Kansas is the other undefeated team with a record of 18-0
Memphis coach John Calipari said the ranking is nice, but he would rather have a number one seed come NCAA Tournament time.
“For me as a coach the only rating I worry about is April 7, he said, referring to the date of the national championship game. “If you said to me I could have the No. 1 ranking or a No. 1 seeding, I’d take the seeding every time. For your players and the school, though, this is huge.
The #1 ranking for the Tigers is the second time in school history that the men’s basketball team has been ranked #1. Back in 1983 they were ranked #1 for a week under coach Dana Kirk.

UT is much better. Memphis will be exposed on Feb 23.
Much better? Lots of close games and a weaker schedule?
We shall see on Feb 23.
Tenn is good. They can beat Memphis….but Memphis can beat UT too.
I am hoping for a game in the 100’s.
Come Feb. 23, by 23h:00 that night, we’ll all have a better idea on how to answer the great mystery of Tigers vs. Vols ‘08, among the which is a key question: “how will a #3 nationally ranked Defense fair against a #192 nationally ranked Defense?” Will raining 3s be reduced to just a mist? Will turnover/assist ratios be a huge factor? Will it be Dorsey or Chism in foul trouble? Will Field Goal percentages be above 60%? Will FTs even matter?
I do like to see Vols fans coming in to the FedEx on as high a horse as possible. That’s good staging.
