Convicted Murderer Billy Flynn Asking For Early Release

Billy Flynn

Convicted murderer Billy Flynn has asked for an early parole from his sentence of forty years to life, he received seventeen years ago for shooting Gregory Smart in the back of the head. Flynn had been having an affair with Smart’s wife, Pamela Smart.

He is asking for an early parole. Under his original sentence he is not to be eligible for parole until after serving twenty-eight years of the sentence.

Flynn has apologized to the family of Gregory Smart and is hoping that his parole can be moved up due in part to his good behavior, accomplishments in prison (GED, etc.), and marriage while in prison.

“As soon as I walked in the room today, I felt a tremendous amount of shame, and I really want to apologize,” he said in a wavering, barely audible voice while clutching tissues in his hand.

She worked at Flynn’s high school and was having an affair with him.

Although he could have been charged with first-degree murder, as Pamela Smart was — a charge that carries a sentence of life without parole — under the terms of a plea deal, Flynn agreed to testify against her and pleaded guilty to second-degree murder. He was sentenced to 40 years to life, but is eligible for parole after 28.

Flynn was 15-years-old when he started sleeping with Pamela Smart. He was 16-years-old when he admitted to killing Gregory Smart. Pamela ordered him to kill her husband or else she would end the relationship.

Flynn told the Smart family he owed them an explanation, that at the time he was an isolated and lost teen and Pamela Smart filled every void in his life.

Flynn said she quickly began trying to leverage that against him, threatening to end their relationship if he didn’t murder her husband.

“It wasn’t just my relationship being threatened, it was my whole life and she knew that,” he said.

We like to poke fun of high school and middle school teachers who sleep with their students. The female teachers usually get slapped on the wrist in comparison to the sentences the men are handed. It is often hard to see the crime when a sexy teacher like Debra LaFave sleeps with one of her middle school students.

But there is a reason it is against the law and should be taken very seriously. Children are not mentally ready to be having sex at that age and especially not mentally capable of sleeping with their teacher or an adult. The case of Billy Flynn is a prime example of why it is important to protect children from sexual predators.

On a less serious note: Isn’t there an uncanny resemblance (see photos below) between Flynn and NBA basketball player Adam Morrison?

I too think Billy Flynn should be freed. He was so young and impressionable. He is truly sorry for what he did. I do not think he is a threat to anyone.

I’m watching the movie right now and it makes me sick how manipulative pamela smart was. That poor boy didn’t seem to have a choice. He was so emotionally involved and confused. He needs to be released. She needs to be executed.

trial and it being all over the news like it was yesterday. i even wrote to billy in prison, he wrote
back but because he didnt know me pewrsonally he said he wouldnt write another letter because
people have used propaganda and the like for their own benefit. icant say that i blame him for
feeling that way. such agood looking young mangoing in and nice looking now too bad he has had to spend most of his life in prison for believing on awish and a prayer that some how some way
if he was part of something unthinkable he would end up with the girl of his dreams at the time.
look where it got him i hope all goes well for him. he coulduse some happiness.

He shot and killed an innocent person. He can not blame Pam. He chose his own path. How many of us have been swayed to do the wrong thing at that age? Many kids have had horrid childhoods that make Billy’s look like Disney World. Think about it!

On one side of the story we are talking about how an adult woman who manpulated this young man. He was not mature enough to handle a sexual relationship and all the mental trappings that go along with it. Yet he’s made great strides in rehabilitation in the last 20 some odd years. That’s what prison is for right? It’s for people to be rehabilitated. He’s no longer a risk to society .So to make him serve 8 more years for a crime he did because some white trash woman maipulated him into doing it. Eight more years to now let the prison system turn him into a very angry person. 28 years was too much because of his age. Our justice system is very bent. You kids can be turned around. This young man can. What he did was heinous. He took a life. Destroyed a family. I think he understands that now. I don’t think the Smart family will ever have closure. They have so much pain and hate in their heart they are blind to the healing of forgivness. Let this man go. Maybe something good can come of it.

Does anyone remember being 15? I think Billy Flynn is also a victim in this whole mess.He has served 17 years in prison. He’s not had a chance to live yet.I feel just as sympathetic for Gregg and his family.I think Billy would better serve the remainder of his sentence doing community service with young people. With Billy behind bars it’s like Pam is still controlling his life and getting her way.Yes, I support Billy’s early release, let him out.
