Hannah Montana star Miley Cyrus has legally changed her name to Miley Ray Cyrus. Her birth name was Destiny Hope Cyrus. She changed her moniker to reflect her nickname and honor her father, Billy Ray Cyrus.
This seems rather silly. Destiny Hope is rather redneck, but it’s the name her parents gave her. Many people are called by a nickname that is not on his or her birth certificate. According to Billy Ray, he and his wife called her Miley because she was always smiling as a kid. Smiley was shortened to Miley.
It doesn’t get much more Southern than Miley Ray.
