6.3 Magnitude Earthquake Rocks Northern Nevada

A powerful 6.3 magnitude earthquake rocked Northern Nevada early Thursday morning.  The epicenter was near Wells, Nevada and was only 3.7 miles wide.

The quake was reported about 6:16 a.m. local time near Elko, about 430 miles north of Las Vegas, according to wire reports.It had an epicenter of only 3.7 miles and struck in a sparsely populated area 11 miles southeast of Wells near the Nevada-Utah line.

The quake could be felt as far away as Salt Lake City, Utah.  So far no injuries have been reported in NV or UT.
