Top 8 Men ‘American Idol’ Season 7 Review

American Idol Danny Noriega

Here are my rankings of the male performances tonight on American Idol. Two won’t make it past this week but who will they be? Surely one of these David’s has to go this week…I am betting Hernandez will be one, just a hunch.

  1. Danny Noriega - Danny was as good as he has been so far. His version of ‘Tainted Love’ perhaps even rivaled the original. (Watch Video Performance)
  2. David Archuleta - David showed diversity by playing the keyboard and again doing a great job with perhaps the sharpest vocals of the night on the classic Phil Colling song ‘Another Day In Paradise’. (Watch Video Performance)
  3. David Cook - David played guitar and was more impressive this week than he was last week. He should hang on for next week. This rocker dude did a pretty good job with the Lionel Richie song ‘Hello’. (Watch Video Performance)
  4. Jason Castro - Castro sang ‘Hallelujah’ and likely locked up the religious right vote. He is a very likable and down to earth. Second only to Archuleta in humbleness. (Watch Video Performance)
  5. Chikezie - He continues to improve each week. Kez took on the Whitney Houston song ‘All The Man That I Need’ and subbed in woman for man and was pretty good. He is 100% R&B and that is refreshing with the other nine pasty contestants. (Watch Video Performance)
  6. Michael Johns - Michael sang ‘Don’t You Forget About Me’. Michael seems to be slipping a bit each week. He wasn’t horrible this week but he wasn’t really that good either. He does have a good bit of charisma. (Watch Video Performance)
  7. David Hernandez - After his scandalous week revelations of nude dancing in gay clubs I would have expected him to come out with a bit more manly of a song, but Dave did the exact opposite by singing ‘It’s All Coming Back To Me Now’ (originally by Celine Dion). Bye Bye Davey! (Watch Video Performance)
  8. Luke Menard - Luke seems to like songs that were originally sung by gay men. From singing a Queen song earlier in the season to singing ‘Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go’ tonight (originally by Wham starring George Michael). Luke was bad and in my opinion is likely gone. (Watch Video Performance)
