Pastor Jeremiah Wright Controversy “Quotes”

Jeremiah Wright the Racist Preacher

Conservative talking head Sean Hannity was the first to expose Barack Obama’s preacher, Jeremiah Wright, for his controversial and racist rants he has made during sermons, on the church’s website, and in his writings.

Wright married Barack and his wife Michelle. He baptizes Barack’s two daughters and has been Obama’s pastor for more than twenty years. He is even credited in Barack’s book, The Audacity of Hope, and the title actually came from one of Wright’s sermons.

I have tried to gather and compile some of the more inflammatory remarks from Wright below. If I have missed any of his most outrageous rants then please feel free to drop a comment with it below.

All Quotes Attributed to Pastor Jeremiah Wright

“We bombed Hiroshima, we bombed Nagasaki, and we nuked far more than the thousands in New York and the Pentagon, and we never batted an eye.”

“We have supported state terrorism against the Palestinians and black South Africans, and now we are indignant because the stuff we have done overseas is now brought right back to our own front yards. America’s chickens are coming home to roost.” (Sep 2001)

“The government gives them the drugs, builds bigger prisons, passes a three-strike law and then wants us to sing ‘God Bless America.’ No, no, no, God damn America, that’s in the Bible for killing innocent people. God damn America for treating our citizens as less than human. God damn America for as long as she acts like she is God and she is supreme.” (2003)

“In the 21st century, white America got a wake-up call after 9/11/01. White America and the western world came to realize that people of color had not gone away, faded into the woodwork or just ‘disappeared’ as the Great White West kept on its merry way of ignoring black concerns.” (magazine article)

“Racism is how this country was founded and how this country is still run!…We [in the U.S.] believe in white supremacy and black inferiority and believe it more than we believe in God.” (sermon)

“Barack knows what it means living in a country and a culture that is controlled by rich white people. Hillary would never know that. Hillary ain’t never been called a nigger. Hillary has never had a people defined as a non-person.”

“Hillary is married to Bill, and Bill has been good to us. No he ain’t! Bill did us, just like he did Monica Lewinsky. He was riding dirty.” (sermon)

“The Israelis have illegally occupied Palestinian territories for over 40 years now. Divestment has now hit the table again as a strategy to wake the business community and wake up Americans concerning the injustice and the racism under which the Palestinians have lived because of Zionism.”

I was wondering what you think about pastor Steven Anderson of Faithful Word Baptist Church in Tempe Ariz who on Aug 16 of this year when he preached a sermon titled “Why I hate Barack Obama.? He went on to say, and I quote, “I’m not going to pray for his good. I’m going to pray he dies and goes to hell.” And how about Rev. Wiley Drake of First Southern Baptist Church in Buena Park, Calif. when he told his congregation that he was praying for the president’s death.

How do you equate these rants with Jesus words on the Sermon on the Mount?

I suggest you read Christopher Hitchens book “god is not great: How religion poisons everything”

I’m shocked at your comment. In case it is true, they are going specifically against God’s word in Romans; “Pray for all thouse in authority,” as well as the Sermon on the mount and many other scripture references. Why do they put themselves above that? What do they want to aquire? Hate derives hate, but love covers any shortcoming. That’s what is so radical about Jesus, he teaches us the best way, though not the easiest way.

Reverend Wright, you are a disgrace to me and you will always be one. I never seen such ignorance as to when I stare at your picture. You say that war is wrong and that we are killing innocent people. The fact is that the CEO’s over our national treasury are whats bringing us down.

On another note, you have no right to say what my God will do or what he want do. It is written in Romans 9 verse 13, Esau I hated but Jacob I loved. It is certainly evident to me that you must truly be a descendant of Esau and you have no morals to boot. The fact is that this very thing in Iraq was going to happen.

This is a blessed nation and you have no right nor the authority to tell the world that your in the right. The fact is that God has often led Israel to war. Did not David conquer his neighbors and set a reign of peace for Solomon his son to reign in.

If Israel vowed to not kill then why are they having to fight to stay free today from the Muslim world.

War will always be a part of this world and when Christ comes to reign, he too will rule the world. Are you going to damn him for war too.

If you don’t like our country or want to make things better than get out. I know you reverend Wright and the fact is you will be damned for taking the Lord’s name in vain.

No Christian I know would ever DAMN THEIR OWN COUNTRY OR TAKE GOD’S NAME IN VAIN.

THE FACT IS YOU DO NOT RISE UP AGAINST OUR GOVERNMENT AND DEFY THEIR RULE AND DAMN THE PEOPLE THAT ARE HEAR TRYING TO MAKE THINGS BETTER AND GET MY RESPECT.

I would just assume to spit on your ignorant, rioting, no good for nothing person that you are.

You are self righteous peace of crap if I have ever seen or heard.

I hope fear trembles in your heart on the day of your judgement.

Wright needs to stop being a victim and do something useful, with all the handout to blacks there is no excuse for every single one of them not having a college education. And by the way how is obama black? was’nt his mother white. You are a racist, and you make me sick. And Isreal belongs to God’s people it says so in the Bible. How dare you talk about rich white americans—Its a free country stop taking handouts and start working hard and you can be Rich too. Your just jealous of white americans

Reverend Wright, You make good points about the way western culture and its hypocritical ways are so obvious. I’m glad to see that I am not the only one that see through the smoke screen set by most of the white collective with their superority complex while the non whites deal with the inferority complex. This country was built on racism, greed, and ignorance just to name a few. Yes, drugs, aids and anything and everthing that can cloud your mind of clear positive thinking so that the white collective remain in so called control will take place untill the whole collective come together as one. I also agree, that america got a wake up call after 911. We are all interrelated as humans, some people skin color lack pegmentation and some don’t but, that does’nt mean one group of people is better than the other. We are all blessed with special gifts and talents which make variety a spice of life. Untill the superority complex is shaken off, and the western culture come together as one america will allways be damned.

we bombed Japan because they bombed Pearl Harbor–Don’t you know any thing about history. In War World II America (white and black) saved the whole world. For a man of God, you sure do have a lot of hatred in you. You give Christians a bad name. I suggest you read the Bible. Why don’t you do something useful and help Africans who are dying of aids.

For Jeremiah Wright to even say what he did about Israel is proof that one, he’s not a pastor of “any” Christian church–regradless of what the church calls itself! Two, he’s clueless what the Bible does say because if he did, the Bible say that Israel owns the very land that Iraq and Iran are on this very day! Three, the Bible also points out this:

“Can two walk together, except they be agreed?” Amos 3:3

Obama didn’t attend that church for 20 years for nothing!

And, Louis Farrakhan (a muslim) wasn’t allow to speak there becasue they disagree with him either! How much common sense does it take to tell that the three are nothing more habitual liars?

Willie, so rounding up Americans of Japanese descent (and some Asians who were mistaken for Japanese people) and throwing them in camps was because of Pearl Harbor? Are you kidding me?

And Carly, no words for you.

Dr. Jeremiah Wright is Right, this is a man with a wealthy of information. I am shocked most people do not see his view in three dimention. Dr Wright is a military veteran and a prominent preacher. Rev Wright way of telling the reality is what some people abhor.

I honestly don’t see what is so inflamatory about these comments. The atom bombs were dropped on innocent Japanese civilians, not soldiers. The bomb on Nagasaki was unnecessary. He’s not talking about the jewish people, he’s talking about the Israeli state, which is aggressive and regularly commits war crimes against palestinian civilians. And I’d love to have a discussion with anyone who doesn’t thinsee the link between over half a century of overthrowing governments in the middle east to secure access to oil and the attacks of september 11th. We are a country desperately trying to hold onto world power and taking increasingly desperate measures, I don’t understand the controversy.

I love it how Rev Wright calls us a ‘racist’ nation, yet we elected Barack Obama as President. Can anyone make any sense of STUPID comments like this? And whites are the minority now. Been that way for a while, we are not to blame for Rev Wright’s anger towards Jews and Whites.. what an embarrassment. I do not think he is representing his people properly as I know a couple African Americans who want him to shut up. There is more discrimination towards whites now than anything. Dont believe it? Try applying for a government job.

Isn’t a pastor in a church of God supposed to bring people together. Why hasnt Rev. Wrong mentioned how it was rich white people who abolished slavery? I guess that slipped his mind while he is to busy playing the race card.

After 20 years of sitting at the feet of this radical, racist pastor now it make things clear why Obama apologizes for America, thinks we are guilty, and wants to punish all Americans, especially the wealthy, although Obama exempts himself from one of the wealthy.

All of these negative comments. I ask all of you racists one single question…What did Reverend Wright say in his listed quotes that is not true? You may not like what he has said, but he is being truthful. Many Black Pastors are realistic about Christology. They recognize the Bible as the story of a people strggling to overcome oppression, slavery and exploitation. Jesus was a revolutonary leader who failed and was executed while attempting to lead his people to freedom. The Romans were viewed by the historical Jews, in the same way that the enlightened Black masses view white people today — as the enemy of God and the enemy of Black People!!!

I’m still amazed that Barack Obama can be a secret muslim and so strictly follow this controversial christian preacher at the same time! Must be because he was born in Panama.

I’ll give you a good reason to hate Obama: THE ECONOMY – his economic policy is a repeat of Bush only with a few more loosely adhered financial laws. His healthcare reform was a good idea but he caved and let lobbyist write it. I still insist he’s an average president on most things but he’s fighting an uphill battle of bullshittery. The “spiking the football” myth (did he stand on an aircraft carrier closer to LA than Baghdad with a mission accomplished sign 6 years before the war ended?)… the birth certificate BS… the fact the “tea party” magically formed and had their first rally one month into his presidency (surely they must have actually been mad at Bush or democrats in congress?) Think there’s a liberal media bias still? There were tea party rallies 1 month into Obama but 9 months into Bush 9/11 wasn’t his fault.

Funny, the two main criticisms of Obama I listed, Romney is no better. But you Obama haters will be the conservative sheep you are not give thought to the libertarian Gary Johnson (if you compare their governorships there’s no way you could possibly think Romney did better economically or politically). And you Christians against Democrats because someone told you to be – you are about to vote for someone who you couldn’t have attended their wedding and that believes Jesus Christ came back in Missouri 200 years ago.

And as a post-script, of the statements posted above, I think there’s some truth in every one of them and you don’t need half the critical thought of Howard Zinn to realize it. The only one I disagree with completely is the thought that Hilary as a woman never experienced racism/stereotypes. Now we’ve had a black president and not a woman president.
