Lebron James/Gisele Racist King Kong ‘Vogue’ Cover?

Vogue Lebron James Gisele King Kong Split

Two weeks ago we posted the new Vogue magazine cover featuring basketball star LeBron James and supermodel Gisele Bundchen. There are several in the media who are now saying the cover is racist and is a take on the ‘racist’ image of King Kong holding damsel Ann Darrow in distress (see larger images below).

ESPN writer Jemele Hill was one of the first to mention this in her article, “LeBron Should Be More Careful With His Image”, which you can read by clicking the title.

I mentioned this cover being a bit suspect back in this March 13th post.

I think if you have a problem with this image, you are an ignorant, worthless piece of trash. You wake up in the morning hating the world and can’t wait to bitch about something because your life has no value and you have nothing better to do. They say beauty is in the eye of the beholder and if you see King Kong when you look at Lebron, you are clinically racist and need help gettin hold of reality. This image shows an elite ball player and a freakin gorgeous woman. PERIOD. TAKE YOUR FU*$#IN TAMPON OUT AND GET A LIFE. PLEASE email back reponses if you have a problem with this post.

Lance you are so stooopid its sad.
Racism is the highest virtue in nature, whether you be darwinian or a deist, this is self evident through observation, only those like you who have been conditioned away from their natural instincts can become haters of themselves their race and learn to love what to a sane man can only be despised. Your reality is a false reality created for you by your media/government slave masters, the Vogue cover is an image created to reinforce your psychotic state, and keep you foaming at the mouth raging over mean evil racists. You have a lot to learn child, start by looking at things from different angles and stop swallowing the medias load.

I agree Lance. It’s the people who liken Lebron to King Kong ei a gorilla, that are the true racists. Not the image itself.

Vogue is a fashion magazine. Why can’t he be wearing a suit and looking fashionable like Gisele. This is not ESPN, we don’t need him in a jersey and shorts. Would david becham be photograph the same way? If you can’t decode the hidden message in this image, you have to be common folk. You have to be able to read behind the lines…but must of you probably just have a highschool diploma…better yet a garbage bachlor’s degree. smh

you people are all delusional and being very dishonest…vogue meant to do this and meant to perpetuate a racist trope of black masculinity…he is wearing all black, he has his mouth open, and she is dressed in a silk piece of clothe. It does not take a genius to see these parallels…but it takes a neoliberal neoracist to try and protect vogue’s intentionality…

OK at first glance I would agree this could be taken the wrong way. Lebron James is being portrayed as a wild black monkey clutching onto a defenseless white women (Gisele). Almost every part of the photo parallels to the common photo of king kong holding faye. Lebron’s gaping mouth, hunched over stance, club that has been replaced by a basketball (of course), gisele’s color and silky fabric dress, the way lebron has his arm around gisele, and even how her legs are swayed over him. Vogue, a fashion magazine would not intentionally publish a racist cover photo. People of every race purchase and subscribe to this magazine, and Vogue would not want to lose any customers. But if you look past the questionable photo, and to the april issues’ topic one would read “Shape issue”. I believe Vogue was portraying Lebron James as an extremely in shape athlete who is a “Beast” in basketball. I know at my highschool if someone is referred to as a beast it’s a major compliment. And Gisele ya she’s fit; she’s a model. These two people are incredibly fit, and have great bodies. They seem to be pretty good candidates for the cover of a shape issue. One would have to admit the cover would not have been as interesting if they had just posed. Vogue was creative, and the controversial cover isn’t going to hurt their sales, magazine stands will be sold out.

Tru blu i think that you are the one with the real problem there is nothing going on in this photo between the lines it is two people doing what they do best lebron an athlete and giselle a supermodel. all vogue wants to do is make money by attracting viewers and if the issue is going to talk about athletes and models like it does then what better way to express that through two people doing what there good at. by the way Tru blu pull your head out of your ass and stop thinking your better than everyone else. a bachlor’s degree can get you a long ways in this world.
