Tom Crean Takes Indiana Hoosiers Coaching Job
The University of Indiana ended its search for a new head men’s basketball coach by hiring Marquette’s Tom Crean. The news comes a day after Washington State coach Tony Bennett removed himself as a candidate.
Crean replaces Kelvin Sampson who resigned weeks ago after violating numerous NCAA rules for the second time in his career.
After a tumultuous season and turbulent coaching search, the Hoosiers finally hired Crean on Tuesday as what they hope will be a long-term replacement for Kelvin Sampson. Sampson resigned in February amid a phone-call scandal that included five major allegations from the NCAA.
Crean racked up a 188-94 record as Marquette’s head coach. He led the Warriors to five 20+ winning seasons in nine years.
