The Epic Charlton Heston Dead at 84

Charlton Heston, one of the greatest actors of all-time, has passed away at the age of 84. He had been suffering from Alzheimer’s for several years. Charlie will be most remembered for playing Moses in The Ten Commandments (1956).
Charlton Heston, the Oscar-winning actor who achieved stardom playing larger-than-life figures including Moses, Michelangelo and Andrew Jackson in historical epics and went on to become a best-selling author, a contentious Hollywood labor leader, an unapologetic gun advocate and darling of conservative causes, has died. He was 84.
Pauline Kael had this to say about Heston back in 1968 towards the end of his acting prime:
“All this wouldn’t be so forceful or so funny if it weren’t for the use of Charlton Heston in the [leading] role. With his perfect, lean-hipped, powerful body, Heston is a god-like hero; built for strength, he is an archetype of what makes Americans win. He represents American power — and he has the profile of an eagle.”
Heston was a favorite actor of mine. He became hated somewhat later in life by gun control freaks when he became president of the National Rifle Association (NRA) in 1998.
