Whitney Thompson Wins ‘America’s Next Top Model’
Model Whitney Thompson won Cycle 10 of America’s Next Top Model on Wednesday night. She is the first plus sized model to win ANTM. Although she doesn’t look too plus to me. More plush than plus!
The final three models were Thompson, Anya Kop, and Fatima Siad.

The show is actually rigged. Tyra just decided to push a plus sized model through to win the competition. It was evident that Anya had much better Covergirl pictures, but they only decided to choose a mediocre one as her “best” shot. From all of Anya’s past shots and just from watching her pictures being taken, it was evident that Anya would have had a much better shot. They purposely picked bad pictures of both Anya and Fatima (both with their eyes “happening” to look upward). There is a very low probability that Anya didn’t even have a picture where she connected at eye level. It was just an excuse to get Whitney some recognition. Then for the runway, Anya was forced into skinny little dresses, which would limit her movement on the runway, (similar to Chantal in Cycle 9) and thus would have a weaker runway. Another factor was the photo portfolio comparisons at the end of the episode, which Tyra conveniently chose Whitney’s stronger shots. Whitney had several bad shots throughout the competition, but these were not discussed at the final judging. She was in the bottom two, 4 times, while Anya had never appeared in the final two. It was so obvious that they chose Whitney’s good pictures.
Don’t get me wrong, I think Whitney is very pretty and actually wanted her to win in the beginning, but Anya is much more deserving of the title. Anya too has her flaws, but she would make a much stronger high fashion model than Whitney. Though Whitney’s runway was stronger than Anya’s (given the unfair dress accommodations) she still didn’t fit in with the other models in the show. She was doubtless to say stunning, but she completely clashed with the high fashion image of the show and ultimately of the title of America’s Next Top Model.
I completely disagree. Whitney is just what they need as America’s Next Top Model. They don’t just want someone who is high fashion, but also a Cover Girl and Whitney fits that position more than Fatima or Ayna. Anya has a typical European look and has weeknesses that do not help her. And I don’t think it is rigged. Whitney had beautiful pictures and is the type of image they need to be projecting to young girls and women in the world. Anya and Fatima, although they are beautiful, would further the negative image of females needing to be slim as a stick to be beautiful and fashionable. Whitney gives a healthy image that will ultimately benefit females.
stop hating. Props for Whitney. Good for her.
She’s cute
I mean I agree that they were pushing for a plus size model to win. Whitney has a terrible fake personality. Plus they did keep her in even though she took bad pictures. Most of the people she was up against in the bottom 2 was never there before and she beat them (even though she had been there multiple times). Name me somebody else that was in the bottom that many times and actually won. Further more Whitney isn’t all that big, she is big in comparison to the other girls. She is a size 6 or 8 which is still smaller than the average woman (a size 12). I hate when people connect bad body image with being thin. Some people are just born then and do not diet or exercise and they stay thin. Just like some people are born bigger. Body image should be an individual thing. You can not blame a magazine for how girls feel about themselves. They should have been taught at an early age to love themselves and those women in the magazines are there the sell things.
I am glad that Whitney won, she’s exactly what ANTM needs and wants, a commercial girl, Anya was too editorial and she will do much better as a model w/not winning the show, now she actually stands a chance to get a good agency and work as a real model, not a spokesperson for a show that has nothing to do fashion
whitney was the least modelish of the 3 girls. as an ANTM fan for all seasons I am very disappointed, much like i was with jaslene (the one faced wonder). Anya excelled throughout the whole competition and has the humbleness, confidence and a real truly nice personality that whitney sorely lacks and i think form the cornerstone of a top model. She said she was proud of her figure, but from the first day to the last she dropped some weight and in the end, standing next to Anya, my boyfriend actually commented that it seemed Anya had bigger breasts than Whitney; she changed herself to try to be like the other girls instead of embracing her figure (which she would try to boast about if she lucked into a good shot). if not anya, then fatima at least. Whitney seems very surface level and I think that the best inspiration comes from personal experiences, which fatima had in spades. Anya had the look, fatima had the experiences, but whitney had it in the bag so that ANTM could finally brag of their plus size acceptance. BTW plus size is not necessarily healthy, just like skinny is not necessarily healthy– it depends on whether you are feeding yourself what your body needs to convert into energy or whether you are feeding your body fake crap that it can’t process and, instead, stores.
Well, if you remember when Joni rocked it out time after time, but somehow Danielle (now “Dani”) won anyway… the people at ANTM don’t always make a lot of sense. I’m glad for Whitney, but I do question the motives of those who chose her over Anya. Being a big girl myself, it’s “nice” to see another juicy booty take the spotlight - I just don’t know that I 100% buy it that that would normally have been their choice, other than to make a statement. Good going Whitney and props, kudos and all that - no matter the reason, you won the season.
What PLUS SIZE is Whitney Thompson?
It was pretty obvious it was going to be either the Plus size model (though I agree she barely scrapes into that category) or the Somalian refugee - much more of an interesting back story than the Hawaiin girl with the funny voice, even if she did have the best photos and the sweetest nature. I lost interest once they kicked Kat out, after Tyra had SUCH fun mispronouncing her name. A billion times is not funny Tyra.
Hot. I’d say she’s hot bumpshack lol
Whether it’s rigged or not I think it’s about time somebody celebrate a “normal sized” woman. In a society where beauty is everything and it’s all about the skinny girls it’s refreshing to see a HEALTHY girl take center stage. I would much have that girl as a role model for my daughter than Kate Moss or any other typical “high fashion” model.
YOU GO GIRL!!
Resp. to Kate - I think Whitney’s gorgeous. I wouldn’t call her normal though - I work in NYC and it’s impossible to look anywhere without seeing basically every kind of woman, even supermodel-shaped. It’s one thing to say that larger and softer women aren’t getting equal time, but suggesting that girls as light and skinny as models aren’t as real are women who are larger and heavier is kind of delusional. Plus-sized women are no more real than skinny, if under-represented.
I’ve got a daughter myself and I’m not looking forward to giving her the “well, we live in a society where looks are more important than we’d like, but that’s just the way things are” speech. Instead, if we’re going to emulate women like Whitney, we should not fail to follow her real example: namely going the distance despite a lack of role models, rather than only when somebody else had blazed the path.
Whitney is a size 12 dress y’all
Once again why is skinney considered bad body image. It’s not fair to the women who are naturally skinney. I mean the women who eat three and four meals a day never exercise and stay thin. That’s not their fault that they were born that way. Just because people are skinney does not mean they starve themselves to be that way. Also Whitney is still not considered “normal size” for a woman. The average woman is a size 12, Whitney is a size 6 or 8. She’s still below normal. You can not blame a magazine for how girls feel about themselves. Women need to embrace themselves no matter what size they are, that’s where good body image comes from. They should have been taught at an early age to love themselves and those women in the magazines are there the sell things.
Oh and according to US magazine Whitney fluctuates between a size 8 and 10. Still not the average sized woman. http://www.usmagazine.com/Whitney-Thompson-Named-Americas-Next-Top-Model
I agree with the first comment.
The user: antm has enough proof that the competition is rigged.
Even though this may be true, I still love Whitney as a person but I think Anya was a better model.
Whitney is not plus size. Plus size models are supposed to be size 12 and up. She’s a size 10 at most. She’s either going to have to lose weight or gain weight to fit into the modeling world. I bet she’ll lose it. Anya should have won. The competition is obviously rigged (how else would Saleshia have won last year)?? It’s too bad, it’s more exciting of a show if it’s not rigged!
imo i think the show was always going to have a plus size model win as they had tried to do it previuosly, it was just a matter of time. Did she deserve to win that doesn’t matter now, what matters is the message being sent out, that is all body types are beautiful. Who knows maybe the next winner maybe a size 12-14.
It will be interesting to see what other countries do, interms of there next top model shows.
In response to Kate and many others out there, I do agree that it is nice to see someone win who is closer to the size of an average american woman. However, how can you label Whitney as “healthy” just by her looks? For all we know, she could be a couch potato and eat cake all day, OR she could barely eat at all and just happen to retain the weight more than other girls. And how can you imply that all thin models are unhealthy? I myself am VERY thin, I have always been very self conscious about it growing up, but I am learning to accept myself for who I am. I actually eat more than most of my friends, and I try to eat a balanced diet and exercise. I know there are a lot of other “skinny” girls out there who are tired of being called “toothpicks” just as much as full figured women of tired of being called fat. Girls should be taught from a young age that beauty comes in all different shapes and sizes, and being full-figured does not represent good health any better than being thin.
The only thing I can’t stand is how Whitney keeps projecting herself as a spokesperson for plus-sized women. I went to middle and high school with Whitney, and it is only in the last year that she has been ‘plus-sized’. She actually used to be very, very thing, and I’m sure you could find the pre-show pictures of her, as they are definitely posted out there. She was ALWAYS thing through middle and high school, so I’m not sure where she’s getting her stories that she’s always had to ‘battle’ with her weight and people negative comments about her. Personally, I think she gained weight to market herself on the show and have something to make her stand apart from the other contestants. She’s flat out lying when she says that she was picked on for her weight and that she knows what it’s like to be made fun of. SHE WAS ONE OF THE GIRLS WHO MADE FUN OF OTHER PEOPLE!!!
well, well! I am really glad! I was really hoping that whitney won, and she did!
But I dont like what I am seeing here… That finally a “big girl” won, doesnt mean that being fat is ok! Perhaps in America a normal woman is a size 12. But in other countries (and ANTM has more fans in foreign countries than in America) to be a size 12 is completely unhealthy.
Americas big problem is overweight! Of course I agree, the fact that Whitney won is a good example for little girls not to starve themselves, but we cant go to the other extreme!!!
If being “big” is in your nature, then fine! But we can not say that a woman size 14 or 16 is a healthy “normal” woman.
Fat is unhealthy… ever watched “Super sized me”?
Whitney IS normal, a size 8 or 10 is OK!
Hello everyone …this is so interesting reading all the comments about a show that happens to be my favorite for all the years it’s been on. I knew this was going to stir up allot of press when Whitney won..That’s why they chose her to shock everyone and to make people talk..I love this show I’ve been watching for years and I’ve been very skinny in high school..I was called anorexic( I hated it) now i am a mother of five and I am now a pretty plus . I wear size 12 and I am a commercial /promo model. With all that being said I am aware of both sides of the fence when you eat and eat and you’re just skinny..that doesn’t mean you’re unhealthy and you must be starving yourself…and now on the Heavier end of the spectrum it doesn’t mean you sit around and eat junk/fast food all the time…(I usually eat grilled/baked chicken or fish) the funny thing is that I study the modeling industry and I know all the in’s and out’s and I was actually going to audition for the show years ago because people thought I should but I just had a birthday and it put me over their entrance age….this is why I watch year after year but I know for sure Anya was the real winner …I always know who’s going home…I see all the strengths and weaknesses and this has everything to do with Tyra’s recent negative press about gaining weight..she even did a show or something called “SO WHAT” talking about her weight gain..so Whitney winning among others in the past was strategic or rigged just like American idol..they make decisions based on who won last, what’s going on in the world…and they also consider the viewers or ratings they do not want to loose any viewers so that’s why they try to allow a variety of people win because each winner represents a separate viewing group such as the Whites(Adrienne, Yowanna, and that other chick I forgot her name), Black’s(EvA,Danielle,Salesha),Bi-racial(Niema),Hispanic(Jasline),and now full figured(Whitney)…and remember I am a plus Model who goes on castings with majority skinny sized 0-2 chicks in the room but I’m also very aware of when there is another motive for why something occurred..yeah America needs to see beauty in many ways but at the expense of injustice? It was unjust for Whitney to win because she just did not deliver like Anya did the entire show come on she almost got sent home about 4 times and Anya never did…Anya was a good hearted person who was not caught up in the drama and fights like others in the house including Whitney…the only time Whit delivered was in the Final Runway but I’m not even sure about that because it may have been a bit too much hip swinging…I’ve seen other ladies in past shows(African American) that they criticized for walking that same way…and like the first person wrote Anya’s dresses were extremely constricting and Whit’s happen to be flowing…I could go on and on about it but I know it’s dragging out.. I just like things to be fare this was not and I guess they feel that Anya will do well in the industry any way…As a pretty plus model I await the moment when we win a competition rightfully just because we did the best..this however bittersweet victory is not it.
I agree that I think the show was rigged to have a plus size model win. I understand why they did it to show that not only thin model should win however I think it should be a fair competition. You shouldn’t win just because you are plus size. Plus I don’t think Whitney was all that big she was just big in compared to the other girls in that competition. In the real world she is still smaller than the average woman. I do agree with Kim that you cannot call Whitney a healthy weight just because she weighed more than the other girls. I am also a very thin woman (size 0) and I eat all the time. In fact I am talked about a lot at work because I eat all day. I mean i’m normally munching on fruits and vegetables (as snacks), but I do eat 3 meals a day. I have always been a thin person. Also growing up I was always always teased for being so thin. But I had to deal with my own demons about being thin, I hated it because people make you feel bad when you are thin. So I don’t think it’s right to say that Whitney is a “real woman”, because I am also a real woman just thin. You cannot say that all thin women are unhealthy just like you cannot say that all women that are a size 10 are healthy. However you can say that I am unheathly because I don’t exercise. I have finally excepted myself for who I am and I love my size. That’s what young girls need to work on loving themselves and not listening to other peoples opinions. Self love is the answer.
No Offence. Even If She Proved Plus Size Models Can Win ANTM..
Doesnt Mean Plus Size Models Should Be Models.
Its cool to show that she is an average american and still healthy..
But its just not the right job for that size.
Models should be not annorexic and not fat either.
You could say a body like Mariah Carey’s is perfect for modeling.
Whitney is a “plus-size” model ONLY by Modeling standards. Previous plus-size models on ANTM were at least 2 sizes larger than her. One cntestant was even dismissed on criteria that included the fact that she was LOSING too much weight as the modules progressed during the season.
Whitney’s win came as somewhat of a surprise to me as well. Anya….hummmmm….I really had a hard time getting into her, although she took great pictures for the most part. Fatima seemed like a great candidate to win - although I noted her accent diminished as time went on. Both Whitney and Fatima had areas of grandeur in their character which was a turn-off, however Anya seemed a bit celluloid.
I suppose there is a possibility that Whitney was chosen as a statement to the recent events re: Tyra.
Does anyone know if the previous winners of ANTM are CURRENTLY successful in their careers?
Thanks!
Iv been watching the show since it first started and Iv noticed over the years that Tyra always cuts the one or two girls on each season that are so stunning that they would give her a run for her money, as if she was still a model herself.
Im completely disappointed with this season as a whole. The usual judges didnt seem to know what they were doing or talking about most of the time and newcomer Paulina Porizkova who had a new perspective on things was questioned constantly about her critiques on who she thought was doing well or not. They cut Claire who I thought was one of the more stunning of the pack and then they pass up Fatima (who in my opinion) was the most elegant looking and the only one who couldve done couture runway. You dont get compared to a major model like Iman over and over again and make it to the top 3 and then get cut? Something is way wrong on this show! All I kept thinking was “Did they really just leave us with a vacant looking mumble mouth (Anya) and a plus size prom queen wanna be (Whitney) to battle it out for the win?” What is wrong with these people?
Whitney may be pretty and she may be able to speak clearly, but shes not high end fashion. At best she will run her contract with Elite for a year doing catalog, but the fact is that she will have to drop the weight in order to continue modeling and if she does, I really wonder how many of the people cheering for her now, will keep doing so when shes skinny? Did these people cheer for her purely out of a weight problem association or because they actually understood the fashion world? And whats even better is that Iv seen pics of Whitney online from a little before Top Model and she wasnt so “plus size”, in fact she was quite svelt and rumors have been flying, that she gained the weight for the show and that the show was rigged to pick her as the “plus size” girl cause Tyra was still reeling from the media calling her fat and she wanted to show that a “plus size” model could make it work and obviously Whitney would drop the weight again. I dont know how much of all that is true, but it kinda actually fits.
My niece works in the fashion industry in NYC and she has to remind people often that the fashion world has its own set of rules when it comes to clothing sizes. As much as we dont like it, most high end fashion doesnt fit the majority of the population in America but truth be told, the reason we like the fashion we see so much, is because it looks so good on the models wearing it and oh yeah, theyre THIN! So, before we all decide to embrace our plus size selves and demand the fashion industry to change overnight what theyve been doing for years now, how bout we put down the cheesesteaks and doughnuts and just pay a little more attention to our health.

First of all whitney was not better then anya . Whitney was so fake and did not take better pics then anys. Anyas personality definitly inspired everyone she was so true. Even though her runway performance wasn’t on point she could still improve just like caridee did. Caridee in her runway she did bad but when she walked on cycle 8’s runway it was much better and strong. Anya had the look of a model and didn’t take “pretty pics” but actual high fashion pics. Whitney only looked pretty in her pics and didn’t look high fashion. Nothings wrong with Anyas accent because most top models have accents. I think they just wanted to have a plus size model to win its very unfair, it’s ANTM not the tyra banks show. Besides what if whitney gets fatter you never know. Also just because someones skinny doesn’t make them bad or unhealthy it’s just the way their born that doesn’t make plus size models healthy at all eathier i’m upset. Also how is Whitney going to fit in a high fahion dress. (not going to work!)
I am so glad they chose Whitney, she’s stunning, the haters should get real about where their negativity is coming from. All three girls will have careers: Whitney has the roughest road since her size goes against the typical emaciation-prone modeling industry selection; Anya is both editorial & high fashion but needs more coaching (walking & talking specifically); Fatima is stunning but also needs more coaching (walking, taking direction). Of the three, I’m glad they chose Whitney, about time we have someone for our girls to look up to who makes sense: there’s no need to starve, no need to have plastic surgery, and rehab is Not cool. Whitney’s win is well worth celebrating… GO WHITNEY!!!
the show couldve been rigged, maybe it wasnt. its tv and get over it. the fact is, the modeling world does need a change, theres no doubt about it. the world isnt black and white (skinny or fat) theres people in between and the modeling world doesnt always necessary take a look at just one side of the spectrum. im not saying skinny is wrong or fat is beautiful i think everyone is beautiful but thats not how some people see it. some think people that are skinny are unhealthy and people that are pass size 5 are either unhealthy or overweight.
americas next top model cant show EVERYTHING that goes on in the house. they just want ratings so they are going to show what people want. if the world is so against a “plus size” model, they are going to show the girl doing bad. maybe whitney did better, we dont know, how we will know though is that if she starts getting modeling gigs. even if she did win, they wouldnt book her if she wasnt good. if she was all for show, then you will notice.
now about whitney, she is beautiful, theres no doubt about it. from what the show let us see, she was good. she may of had a nasty side but the constant filming and living in a house with all those girls could of shown a nasty side. or the fact that if she indeed did grow up bigger than most girls, then she most likely was picked on and even if someone had the biggest confidence ever, it still breaks you down and hurts you little by little. it hurts and if someone keeps it bottled inside, it could turn someone into a defensive person.
Ps: to lina, mariah carey isnt perfect she is just an old person wearing too tight clothes
peace
I didn’t really mind if Whitney/Anya won, I liked them both. BUT I think Anya should of won.
But in my opinion, Anya had more model quality and took better pictures than Whitney. I didn’t think it was fair for Anya since the judges picked Whitney because she was a “plus-size”. Whitney is really pretty but Anya has a much nicer personality, and she always brings good energy. Anya was even nice to the other contestants, unlike Whitney who would talk behind everyone’s back.
Everyone is saying how Whitney is healthier because she’s fatter. But wth? Just because models are skinning that doesn’t mean they starve themselves.
She’s gorgeous and deserved to win.
Shame on those people who only want twigs for models.
If Whitney went to a PLUS SIZE clothing store there would not be ONE item of clothing that would come even close to fitting her. In the real world, “regular” sizes stop at 16 or 18. There is some overlap with sizes 14, 16 and 18 in the “regular” store and the “plus size store. However, a size 14 in a regular store is much smaller than a size 14 in the plus size store. Just like the “regular” fashion industry uses models in size 2 clothing to sell to women who wear a size 10-12, the plus size fashion industry uses models who wear a size 8-10 to sell to women who wear a size 18-20. It is simple psychology - tricking the mind into thinking that if you buy their clothes you are magically going to drop 4-5 clothing sizes.
I am so disappointed that Whitney won!! I ABSOLUTELY agree 100% with the first comment about the show being rigged and so on…Whitney DID NOT have better pictures than Anya and she is definitely not a better model. She posed too much and though I did like her in the beginning, her personality was a definite TURN-OFF, with her high-pitched fake laugh and her really wierd fake way of talking prom queen style. The pictures that were chosen to compare at the end, my sister and I noticed it right away, they did not show ALL the pictures but only showcased the “stronger” ones that Whitney had. And even with those pictures, she did not look like a high fashion model. With the runway, they did not even account for the restricting dresses that Anya had, though I think Paulina mentioned it at once, not that anyone listened. If Whitney was in those tight dresses and if she didn’t “bring it”, she probably would have won anyways! I am disgusted that they chose Whitney over Anya and it just shows that the show is coming to. Last season, I think it was Saleisha and before that, Jaslene?!?
I probably shouldn’t be disappointed anyways, Tyra Banks in general has also been a disappointment to me. She’s become too commercialized and her actions too overly exaggerated, trying to become one of the “masses”. Regardless of the things that she says, we know that she still rubs herself as a model in our faces when she all of a sudden goes into her “model poses”. It’s corny and no, after the million~ith time, sorry, it’s not hot anymore. I’ve seen her talk show, and excuse me?! Emmy nominated for Outstanding Talk Show?!? She is not a very good host and is sometimes so awkward that I cringe when I hear the things that come out of the mouth. I don’t know why people think the things she says are funny, but some times they’re rude and ill-fitting for the situation, as well as embarassing to her guests.
For those that say “YAY! A plus-sized woman won, thank goodness it’s not a twig again. It’s a victory for all women with curves! Stop complaining about Whitney you skinny haters!”…that’s crap because winning should be because they earned it and deserved it. I honestly can’t sit here and not rant about the injustice! I’m not a typical skinny and tiny asian and I’m totally cool with that so I’m not “hating” on “bigger” women. It’s very unfair to say that “skinnny” girls have some sort of eating disorder or they get plastic surgery. Plenty of “normal-sized” girls do those things as well. People are born to be different sizes and those who can’t accept that clearly lack the self-esteem to love themselves. And to say that Whitney is healthy sized?! She could be binge eating and puking it all up and eating junk food all the time without exercising. We don’t know what she does so we can’t say whether or not she maintains a healthy lifestyle. As well with Anya, we don’t know what she does, she could be the healthiest person on earth but some could say that she’s too thin with some sort of eating disorder because she’s smaller. And if Whitney did have better pictures and was an overall better model, then good on her for winning! But winning to me is about merit and should not be based on size, ethnicity or any such things. Whitney got her win handed to her because they wanted a “normal-sized” girl to win this season and those who can not see objectively, with the size issue aside, that she’s not a better MODEL than Anya, is just plainly and simply wrong. I understand that people have different opinions and see things differently, but from that objective point of view and for a show that’s called “America’s Next Top Model”, we can assume that what they’re looking for is the BEST MODEL, not some girl who gets picked to win because Tyra has some secret agenda.
With that aside, though I know we don’t get to see ALL of the show, with editing and such, Anya would have made a much much better Covergirl. I didn’t like her much in the beginning but after awhile, she definitely grew on me, and seemed like the sweetest thing. My only comfort at this injustice is that with the exposure she recieved on Top Model, she can use it to actually model because she was good at it and deserving the win that was taken from her.
Top Model has been consistently going downhill for the last couple of years. The photo shoots are not as interesting, their challenges not as interactive that it has lost my support for the show and for its judges. They’ve lost credibility and that’s just too bad because I was such a die-hard fan. Frustrating as it may be, it just shows you how disappointing people in show biz can be! Eventually they all fall down. It’s sad, really.
i wasn’t really shocked that they picked Whitney over Anya. It’s always just about the show and the ratings anyways when it comes to these reality shows. so yeah…they needed a a “plus size” model to win so they can be talked about. but it is SO OBVIOUS that Anya IS the model. and like what the judges said all throughout the show, Whitney is a pageant girl. and i do agree with some of the comments that the show controls the pictures they show on tv. for all we know….they are picking the “bad” pictures of the girls they want out.
im a big fan of the show. i love seeing all the make-up and clothes and the talent. but when it comes to judging….it is all a lie. they want publicity. it is a reality show.
so i guess im glad they didn’t pick Anya. coz if they did, all she’ll be doing is stupid cover girl commercials that they show during America’s Next Top Model commercials. she deserves high fashion jobs, not Tyra jobs. look at Saleisha! oy!!!! so Anya….you are free from Tyra…
My best friend is a size 14 and she’s a beautiful, curvy, healthy, YES, healthy, black woman. She’s about 5′6” and weighs about 160 to 170 lbs. She’s an exercise instructor, yes an exercise instructor. She is all muscle, like Serena Williams. She has no fat on her back, her arms, nor does she have a double chin. She has a booty like a black woman, like a large, round basketball. When we used to hang out at the clubs when we were younger, all eyes (men) were on her. Yes indeed, thick women can be beautiful and thick women can be healthy. Period.
I was hoping for whitney to win the entire cycle! She is beautiful and down to earth. I’m a small framed girl, but I think it is time that the fashion industry embraces “real” women. I thought for sure they would go with Anya only because of the high-fashion look. I’m glad I was wrong and think it is refreshing to see that ANTM finally made the right call! I’m 34 but think I will buy a copy of that Seventeen magazine just because I’m so psyched for Whitney.
P.S. to those that comment about the show being rigged or the title going to the deserving one; Whitney is deserving. She took just as beautiful pictures as Anya did, they just have different looks. Whitney made it further than any other “full figured” model in the history of the show & then actually won. If they were in it for ratings and not talent they would’ve let her make it to the end and then chosen Anya anyway. Which is what I was totally expecting.
Besides, I’m sure Anya will have a great career anyway, if she has the right representation. This is still just as much of a launching pad for her. Chill out.
Whtiney is a beatfiful girl but I don’t understand the “real” woman comment that continues to be repeated here and everywhere. Of course she’s real - we are all “real” no matter our size and if we are happy with ourselves that is the most important thing. I am neither a plus size nor a twiggy size but I am real. At 5′7″, relatively fit and weighing in at approx 134 on a light day I wear size 4, 6 and 8 depending on the cut. As for Whitney winning - I am no expert but I think she is a great face model but will be limited for modeling clothes for print and runway. She is “outside of the box” when it comes to “top” models. There has never been a top model of her size (which apparenty is really not even “plus”). Fashion mags, while sometimes informative and very often interesting are really purely entertainment - in my humble opinion. So consider this analogy: You are at the ballet and you are expecting a lithe, graceful and beautifully proportioned ballernina to dance across the stage and instead she is the anti-that. It’s just not right. If they want a “plus” size top model they should have a contest for that and mabye a petite sized one too! Cover all the bases and then start a magazine to promote fashions for that audience. Don’t get me wrong - I think it is healthy thinking for magazines to use healthy looking models that are not stick thin with bones protruding at all angles (which does not look good anyway)- but lets not get crazy.
My poor husband loves me so much he has put up with years of ANTM to spend quality time with me when I watch. This is the first time he has ever been excited about the winner. I really felt that Anya would win and I personally just couldn’t get the warm fuzzies about her. When Whitnet won, I was stunned and happy. Hubby said ,” He!! Yeah!” And stood up and cheered. My 17 year old daughter was in awe. She’s not fat, she’s a regular size girl. ( 5′4″ size 8-10) She is called fat at school and I’ve told her over and over she is fine.
This experience was great for my family. Thank you ATNM, thank you Tyra and alll the luck in the world to Whitney.
( Hubby said that if Whitney worked out just a bit she’d be Victoria’s Secret material…I think a man has an eye for these things.)
she gained weight so that they could rig the show with her winning as a plus size, which she never attained anyway (still too skinny). Tyra’s emphasis on healthy living in the house and the food that was available to her probably wasn’t helping her keep up the lower-end plus-size frame she put on for the show. She might have a lot of support in America as a “model” for women who “actually eat,” however to other countries she is an model of poor American beliefs on weight and eating. I’m from the south so I love my sweets and fried foods like the next neighbor, but i know (but many would like to ignore that) it’s poison to my body so i don’t think of it as acceptable fuel for the body, it has little value to me besides giving me good food hormones to make me feel better. If people would eat sweet fruits and veggies and good meat and lay off flavor-injected, cheap, preserved, fast food, made from concentrate, super sugary/fatty and super-sized foods (like we human animals naturally would) it is highly unlikely that people having a high BMI and low muscle amount would be praised as a new or need to be accepted standard. I have always been a size 6-12ish classically trained dancer and i will never sing praises for being a heavier girl if along with it is ignorance of the value of food to the human animal and it’s abuse as an emotional drug. I was on the upper end of the scale when I did not think of food as fuel and ate whatever I craved and thought to be semi-healthy. It can make you happy for the moment, but eating won’t solve your problems.
im so mad that the fat grotesque face of whitney won i never knew that she would even make it so ugly how could a face like that want to be seen on top model anywhere i dont want to see her face everytime i open a seventeen magazine i dont want to see fat and grotesque ugly in my eye view no body want to see that i was so mad when the screen just presenting that ugly face man i wanted anya to win so bad she look waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy better than that fat hoe fake bitch dang no body wanted her to win just other fat beast that was rooting for her if i was fat i wouldnt even waste my time cause i know nobody want to see no fat nasty body in no magazine and the reason why you MAY think key word think she looked pretty was because the computer retouched her grotesque face and with out that she would be ugly and with the retouch she stilll ugly so imagine with out it wheww but anyways whitney never should have won.

Im sorry but Whitney is NOT plus sized!
They consider a 8/10/12 plus size. IT IS NOT!
In the NORMAL world 8/10 is normal sized and even considered on the small size.
Most girls would KILL to be a soize 8/10
Im sorry but thats skinny to me. She is not big and that just shows what the fashion industry thinks.
8/10? I cant wait to see what they say about someone thats 16/18/20/22 then!
I am so happy that Whitney won! I know Fatima went through Hell when she was younger, but she isn’t the only person who has ever been through bad stuff in their life. I felt like she was trying to use that have people pity her to get through the competition. I’m not trying to be insensitive towards her, I have no clue what it’s ike to be in her situation. Bottom line on Fatima– she put everyone down to feel better about herself & was never positive about anything. Anya was a good model, I especially like her “au naturale” photo shoot with nigel. However, i felt llike she tried to exaggerate her weird accent and it just made her seem fake to me. If she would have won, i would have been happy but not as happy as i was when Whitney won. I love that Whitney i sso proud that she has a figure– thats what so beutiful about a woman’s body–curves. She is not big, Tyra has just as many curves just more toned than Whitey’s. Whitney has a great personality and i feel like she could be any girls best friend. That’s what America’s Next Top Model should be like–a best friend only high fashion.
i didnt really care who won. But im glad whittney did, because it gives people a chance to debate stuff like this. I think its stupid that people are trying to say what is “the right weight” for modeling. You can be beautiful no matter what your weight. and just because shes not a size 12, doesnt mean she cant be considered plus size. Plus sized means bigger than the average model. And i would say the average model is at the msot a size 2. Now im a small girl myself im a size zero, but that doesnt mean i dont eat. I just dont think we are to judge what weight she needs to be. Im sure whitney could take better pictures than any of you, myself included, because she is accepteble of her weight.
(oh and p.s. for those of you who said she is “fake” its a modeling competition.. not a personality one)
she shouldnt be called plus size, she is not that big (certainly not a 12). Sarah in a past season was criticized for her “shrinking” plus size figure, and she was bigger than whitney. she didnt deserve to win. plus size or size 0, the modeling industry *ANTM* should be touting girls who eat healthy and stay in healthy shape AND can model. again HEALTHY. the food (quality and quantity) that is to be eaten and the lack of exercise it takes to be a plus size is typically unhealthy. from personal experience. I danced and was athletic buy i ate like crap… that “plus” on the body is usually from preserved, fatty and sugary food that your body cannot process, which is not healthy. It is a bad example to people who are trying to teach proper eating habits to kids instead of just giving them lucky charms and hamburger helper all the time; eating (specially junk food) releases endorphines so im sure plus size people dont deny how good they feel with their food in hand (eating whatever u want certainly is fun), but realistically it’s delusionally healthy. been there, done that. much happier eating as we animals are supposed to. naturally.
and by the way. the winners have been quite multicultural; its more than just black and white. Saleisha was even one of the most recent winners. whiner.
in response to kim.
i agree we do not know that she is phyically healthy. And i understand what you mean by saying there are thin girls who are healthy me included. i’m 5′5” and barely fit into a size 0, but i eat a tonnnnn! im just very active. And yes im sick of people saying that i have an eatting disorder because of it. But What we do know is that there are alot of people, specially teens who are struggeling with eatting disorders, and the “modeling” world is portraying that, that is “the look” and while i think everyone should be healthy, im glad we finally have a beautiful model who is curvy to show that, big can be/ is beautiful
She is such an inspiration to the girls with some meat on their bones. She is so beautiful and has a great personality. I’m so proud of her, and everything that she has done. Yayyy for Whitney!
I wish everyone stop hate on whitney. Whitney you did a good job and i am glad you won American Next Top Model.
well i think antm made a great decision whitney has opened so many doors I have been modeling for a little bit and i am no where near a size 2 but i am happy in my own skin i am a size 14 and lovn it but it is hard but ull get through it if ur dedicated. by the way i didnt really like fatimas attitude or anyas looks eventhough they were “high fashion”. plus girls from the south do have curves it is rare to see a girl that has a boys body or a 10year olds lol.
It’s really weird that people call her “plus size.” She isn’t, and that just makes us regular girls feel bad about our appearance, whatever our sizes are. If she’s considered “fat,” how do girls who are actually overweight feel about their bodies and what are their feelings? I think it’s terrible to be cruel in the direction of overweight people, not that I”m not advocating healthy emotions, diet, and lifestyle for people who are overweight in order to live longer and healthier. My height, proportions, chest, and body type look EXACTLY like Whitney’s, and I wear anywhere from an 8 to a 12 healthily and without health/weight issues. I had a bad case of mono, a horrible case, that caused me to lose weight due to a lot of nausea, throwing up, and swollen glands in my throat that made swallowing solid food very difficult. My hair was falling out, but I was a size 6/7. I weighed maybe 135 lbs. I had to see my doctor a lot that year, and he recommended I get up to at least 150 lbs in order to be healthy and in a good range for recovery/general health/appearance issues. He said my body wasn’t made to be small like it was when I was about a 6.
During that time, friends praised my efforts to “lose weight,” boys approached me (I was in college) which I wasn’t used to much, and clerks in stores praised my “tiny body.” How did I do it? I explained to them I had a major illness that had made my body do this against my wishes, every time I brushed my hair huge clumps came out from it, and I felt awful all the time and barely had the energy to go to class, or even to stand and take a shower. I used to faint in the shower and had to have a chair to sit on in the shower that I brought in just so I could get through the physical process of it. I had the 1% of really bad situations from mono…. almost had to have surgery to remove my spleen and to relieve swelling in my glands and stuff in my neck. But I was “skinny”, and that was what everyone else saw, as sick as I was. I didn’t like how I looked personally at a size 6 even if I had gotten to that size through healthier means than an illness that seemed to mimic leukemia, my doctor said. AT least I was skinny, though. (sarcasm)
Today I’m healthy, my hair is healthy and shiny, my body feels better, and I am a size 10. My doctor said I could not physically be at a size 6 (135 lbs) and be healthy, he would worry I was underweight at that size. He recommended I stick to anywhere from 150 to 165 as a healthy range. Which ever since then I have. I don’t look like Whitney in terms of her appearance, but my body type is the same, which I am definitely happy with now. I still feel big sometimes, but I would rather feel like this than how I did much smaller. That size may work for some women, but I know it doesn’t work for me and was not recommended by my doctor. My sister is tall like me but about a 6 or 7. It works for her body type; she does a lot of swimming, has a tiny upper body that is long and shorter legs than I do, no boobs, and a curvy bottom half. I would guess she weighs about 140, but that is right for her build, which although we are sisters, we totally look differently.
