More Offensive: Whitey or Cracker?
They are saying over at Political Kudzu that there is reportedly a tape of Michelle Obama using the racial term “whitey” to describe those who lay out under the dark side of the moon. Naturally, if true, the tape could be very devastating for Barack’s chances of reaching the Whitey White House.
So my semi-related poll question refers to racial slang directed at Caucasians.

I’m white, and to be honest none of the terms, ‘whitey’, ‘cracker’, or ‘opie’ ever insults me. “Whitey” is not an insult. I know I’m white, and if someone calls me “whitey” it only makes me realize why: they are probably mad because I have more, and am more. And in the back of my mind I sometimes enjoy it, a little devilishly; perhaps I enjoy the reminder that they are feeling the weaker side of their own race against mine. Thus, I take “Whitey” as a compliment.
“Cracker” pays even more compliment to me: the term comes from slave times. The slaves would refer to their master or overseer as “cracker”, as he was the man who would “crack” the whip against their backs. “Oh’ lawdy, here come cracker!” Whenever I hear blacks call me or other white people ‘cracker’, it only makes them look like the old slaves; it’s like calling white people “master” again. It’s great fun, especially because those blacks have no idea. HAHA.
Opie? I can only assume that this is from Opie Taylor of the old Andy Griffith Show. And again, this is a compliment. No white person in this country is ashamed of the town of Mayberry in that old show. Many of us view Opie and Andy, and Barney Fife, and Aunt Bea, and the entire town of Mayberry, as the greatest time our American society ever knew. Being all white, and pleasant, and full of wholesome wisdom and community, The Andy Griffith Show holds dear to us, all the decency and old-fashioned good-living that has since vanished with black integration into our society and schools over the years. Mayberry and “Opie” are examples of the finest societal achievement our aging generations ever knew. Yes, call me “Opie” all you want.
