Scott Kalitta Dies in NHRA Race Qualifying

NHRA race car driver Scott Kalitta died today during funny car time trials when the engine in his car exploded, causing a devastating wreck.

Kalitta’s Funny Car broke apart when his engine exploded at the end of a qualifying run. He had no ability to stop the racecar, and it crashed into a wall at the end of the track, bursting into flames upon impact.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of Scott. He was just 46-years old.

Editor’s Note: Name sometimes confused to be Scott Coletta.
