Donna Fitzgerald Raped and Killed by Inmate

Florida female Corrections Officer Donna Fitzgerald was raped and killed by inmate Enoch Hall.  Fitzgerald was on time at the time of the crime.  Hall has a history of rape and abduction.

Investigators with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement are interviewing inmate Enoch Hall, 39, in the murder of Officer Donna Fitzgerald, a 13-year veteran of the Tomoka Correctional Institution.

Department of Corrections spokeswoman Gretl Plessinger said that Fitzgerald, 51, of Port Orange, was attacked at 7:30 p.m. An agency report shows the corrections officer was on duty at the time of the attack. FDLE and Corrections officials declined from releasing additional details on the murder and the investigation.

Hall was already serving two life sentences for sexual battery of a weapon and kidnapping.

Keep women away from this notoriously bad inmates with histories of sexual abuse, battery or murder.

this is what happens when we don’t have a death penalty. The guy lives and kills again and again while in Jail. No one thinks of the people who have to guard these monsters for $14 an hour…

    Detention Deputy | July 1st, 2008 12:13

I am so upset to hear this , I am a detention deputy and have been for 18 years. We manage at least 5000 inmates in our facility, this is my biggest fear as a female deputy. The public has no idea what we deal with on a daily basis, if they did they would be appauled. This is a tragedy, I am sending my heartfelt sympathy to the family. All of the county commissioners in these countys need to really take a look at what their budgets are forcing the sheriff’s to do cut down on staff, therefor subjecting their employees to this type of crime. They dont care we must be expendable.

This is the second female murdered in the state DOC in the last 5 years. I work at the facility where the other on was murdered in an escape attempt in June 2003. I did not work there then but let me tell you the staff that were on shift that night as well as the other staff at our facility will never be the same again. This kind of stuff leaves lasting scares on staff.

I am a retired corrections sergeant and presently have a son in law and daughter in the corrections field. The dangers are enormous. Only those on the decks know the danger. It lurks on the back of your neck. We do what we do without any expectations, all we want to do at the end of our watch is leave as we arrived. Whie we are gone we pray for those we left behind to be safe as we were. Things go wrong. We have made provisions deep inside us for the ugly moments. When one of us gets hurt, all of the plugs are removed. Donna Jo lived in the town where we chose to raise ou family. She was doing exactly what she wanted to do. We do it as a calling. The women that enter this field have so much more to overcome than the males. The environment is not user friendly.
Keep the families of all that do the job in your prayers. Pray that the Shure and Fitzgeralds can make sense out of this senseless mess that a viscious person created. I wish you all well and pray for all of your safety. Thank you for your sacrifices
