NBA Mock Draft Bumpshack

Derrick Rose went #1 tonight to the Chicago Bulls. He was followed in the top five by Michael Beasley, O.J. Mayo, Russell Westbrook and Kevin Love. Darrell Arthur fell all the way down to the 27th pick due to rumors of a mysterious kidney ailment. Deandre Jordan, Chris Douglas-Roberts and Mario Chalmers fell into the second round.

ROUND ONE

1. Chicago Bulls - (PG) Derrick Rose - MEMPHIS TIGERS

The Bulls made the right pick by taking Derrick. He is all about playing basketball. He is a leader yet extremely humble for a kid with his skills. His game will continue to grow and expand. Once he develops a solid J he will be unstoppable.

2. Miami Heat - (PF) Michael Beasley- Kansas State

Work ethic and attitude cost Beasley’s chance at going #1. Also, if K-State had gone deeper in the tournament it would have really helped Mike out.

3. Minnesota Timberwolves - (SG) O.J. Mayo - USC

Mayo did the most to raise his stock from the end of the college season to tonight. He should be an extremely good player in the NBA.

4. Seattle Supersonics - (PG) Russell Westbrook - UCLA

Westbrook has to be pumped. This is a lot earlier than most experts had him going. Many thought that Jerryd Bayless would be the pick here.

5. Memphis Grizzlies - (PF) Kevin Love - UCLA

Not much surprise for the Grizz. They fell in love with Love at his workout for the Grizzlies. He also is one of the few players that stated he was excited about playing for the Grizz.

6. New York Knicks - (SF) Danilo Gallinari - Italy

7. Los Angeles Clippers - (SG) Eric Gordon - Indiana

Good guy, GREAT shooter!

8. Milwaukee Bucks - (SF) Joe Alexander - West Virginia

This guy will become a fan favorite in white-bread Milwaukee. He is tough, strong and a very good shooter.

9. Charlotte Bobcats - (PG) D.J. Augustin - Texas

I don’t really understand this pick. They already have Raymond Felton. They must not be too pleased with him or believe he can stay healthy and play big minutes.

10. New Jersey Nets - (C) Brook Lopez - Stanford

He might have gone to Stanford but he seems really dumb. Maybe it is the thin air up there.

11. Indiana Pacers - (SG) Jerryd Bayless - Arizona

Disappointing night for Bayless. He had to think he was going to be a top five pick. Update: Bayless has been traded to the Portland Trailblazers.

12. Sacramento Kings - (F) Jason Thompson - Rider

13. Portland Trailblazers - (SG) Brandon Rush - Kansas

He reminds me a lot of a young Scottie Pippen. Update: Rush has been traded to the Indiana Pacers.

14. Golden State - (PF) Anthony Randolph - LSU

Geaux Tigers! Probably a bit lower than he expected to go, but recent LSU draftees (i.e. Stromile Swift, Tyrus Thomas) have been busts in the league. Being drafted at #14 will allow Randolph to surprise some people and he will.

15. Phoenix Suns - (C) Robin Lopez - Stanford

If older brother Brook is dumb then Robin is dumber. Shaq is going to use Robin as his whipping boy in practice next year.

16. Philadelphia 76ers - (PF) Marreese Speights -Florida

Supposedly Marreese’s work ethic would challenge that of Derrick Coleman in his prime.

17. Indiana Pacers - (C) Roy Hibbert - Georgetown

The only place that would have been more ideal for the extremely slow Hibbert would have been the Utah Jazz where he could have followed in the foot steps of Mark Eaton and Greg Ostertag.

18. Washington Wizards - (C) JaVale McGee - Nevada

I can’t see the name McGee without thinking about the immortal Willie McGee.

Portland trades (PG) Jarret Jack, Josh McRoberts, and rights to pick #13 (SG) Brandon Rush to Indiana for (PF) Ike Diogu and rights to pick #11 (SG) Jerryd Bayless.

Portland’s GM needs a pay raise for his past two drafts for the Blazers. If Greg Oden can return strong from his surgery Portland will be a force to deal with for several years.

19. Cleveland Cavaliers - (PF) J.J. Hickson - N.C. State

20. Charlotte Bobcats - (C) Alexia Ajinca - France

WTF? How the heck is this guy going to survive living in Charlotte, North Carolina. A power center from France? What an oxymoron. He is big and long and has a wing span the size of a Boeing 747.

21. New Jersey Nets - (PF) Ryan Anderson - California

The second coming of Troy Murphy. He will be good if he puts on some muscle….but I still doubt this was a Jay-Z approved pick.

22. Orlando Magic - (SG) Courtney Lee - Western Kentucky

Lee is a great pick for the Magic. He will be a very dependable scorer and will fit in seamlessly with the Dwight Howard and Co.

23. Utah Jazz - (C) Kosta Koufos - Ohio State

I would have never guessed the Jazz would have taken a very tall, white center!

24. Seattle Supersonics - (PF) Serge Ibaka - Congo

Probably still 2-3 years from actually playing in the NBA. He has been playing in Spain. But from the video I have seen he should be serviceable when his time comes.

25. Houston Rockets - (SF) Nicolas Batum - France

A great pick this late in the first round. He might still be a couple of years from leaving Europe for the NBA. He is a very athletic 2-3 that will compliment Yao and Tracy McGrady (if T-Mac doesn’t fall apart before hand) very well.

26. San Antonio Spurs - (SG) George Hill - IUPUI (Ooey-Pooey)

This guy has to be stoked to be going in the first round. But never doubt the Spurs when it comes to the draft or front office moves. Just don’t be confused into thinking that Iupui is in Africa.

27. New Orleans Hornets - (PF) Darrell Arthur- Kansas

Some had Arthur going as high as #10 but a mysterious kidney ailment that has popped up in recent days sent him tumbling all the way down to NOLA. If he stays healthy this should be a steal for D.A. Update: Rights have been traded to the Trailblazers.

28. Memphis Grizzlies - (SF) Donte’ Greene - Syracuse

Great pick by the Grizz. He could have gone as high as #10 according to several picks. He is young and needs a good bit of work with his shot and shot selection but at #28 this is a GREAT pick for the Grizzlies. I am actually surprised the Grizz made a good pick at this point. Of course I am likely to find out here in five minutes that they have traded Greene to the Lakers for the ‘H’ in the Hollywood sign.

29. Detroit Pistons - (PF) D.J. White - Indiana

The Pistons add to their plethora of power forwards. Unlike the other ones, this one can likely rebound and block shots. Update: Traded to the Seattle Supersonics.

30. Boston Celtics - (SG) J.R. Giddens - New Mexico

Decent pick…has a history of attitude problems.

SECOND ROUND

31. Minnesota Timberwolves - (C) Nikola Pekovic - Montenegro

32. Seattle Supersonics - (F) Walter Sharpe - UAB

Traded along with the 46th pick to the Detroit Pistons for D.J. White.33. Portland Trailblazers - (PF) Joey Dorsey - Memphis

Congrats to Joey! Portland will be very pleased with Joey and his athleticism. He will give them lots of energy and rebounding and will fit extremely well next to Greg Oden.

34. Minnesota Timberwolves - (PG) Mario Chalmers - Kansas

Nice pick for the Wolves. Update: Traded to the Miami Heat.
35. Los Angeles Clippers - (C) DeAndre Jordan - Texas A&M

Bad team workouts pushed him from the middle of the first round down to this spot in the second. He is 7 feet tall and seven footers are at a premium in the league.

36. Portland Trailblazers - (C) Omer Asik - Turkey

Still no CDR!

37. Milwaukee Bucks - (SF) Luc Richard Mbah A Moute - UCLA

38. Charlotte Bobcats - (PG) Kyle Weaver - Washington State

39. Chicago Bulls - (F) Sonny Weems - Arkansas

Still no CDR!

40. New Jersey Nets - (SG) Chris Douglas-Roberts - Memphis

Finally CDR drafted! First team All-American. A gift to the New Jersey Nets at 40. CDR likes to play with a chip on his shoulder and getting drafted this low will put a monster chip on his skilled shoulders.

41. Indiana Pacers - (F) Nathan Jawai - Australia

42. Sacramento Kings - (G) Sean Singletary - Virginia

43. Sacramento Kings - (F) Patrick Ewing, Jr. - Georgetown

44. Utah Jazz - (C) Ante Tomic -Croatia

45. San Antonio Spurs - (G) Goran Dragic - Slovenia

46. Seattle Supersonics - (F) Trent Plaisted - BYU

Selection made for Detroit Pistons.

47. Washington Wizards - (SF) Bill Walker - Kansas State

Update: Traded to the Boston Celtics for cash.

48. Phoenix Suns - (F) Malik Hairston - Oregon

49. Golden State Warriors - (F) Richard Hendrix - Alabama

50. Seattle Supersonics - (C) DeVon Hardin - California

51. Dallas Mavericks - (SG) Shane Foster - Vanderbilt

52. Miami Heat - (F) Darnell Jackson - Kansas

53. Utah Jazz - (F) Tadija Dragicevic - Serbia

54. Houston Rockets - (F) Maarty Leunen - Oregon

55. Portland Trailblazers - (G) - Mike Taylor - Idaho Stampede (NBADL)

56. Seattle Supersonics - (C) - Sasha Kaun - Kansas

57. San Antonio Spurs - (F) - James Gist - Maryland

58. Los Angeles Lakers - (G) Joe Crawford - Kentucky

59. Detroit Pistons - (G) Deron Washington - Virginia Tech

60. Boston Celtics - (C) Semih Erden - Turkey

And that’s a rap.  Congrats to all that were selected tonight!
