Man Beheaded on Bus Identified as Tim McLean, Jr.
Tim McLean, Jr. has been identified as the man that was killed and beheaded in the bathroom of a Greyhound bus on Wednesday night.
Police have not confirmed the identity of the man stabbed to death aboard a bus late Wednesday and beheaded, according to witness accounts, but friends have said it was Tim McLean Jr., 22, of Winnipeg.
RCMP announced Friday morning that they have charged Vince Weiguang Li, 40, of Edmonton with second-degree murder. He is scheduled to appear at the Manitoba provincial court in Portage la Prairie.
Second-degree murder, under the Criminal Code, is commonly defined as unpremeditated murder. First-degree murder refers to a killing that is planned and deliberate, but also when death is caused by sexual assault, aggravated sexual assault, kidnapping and forcible confinement.
This case is disturbing on so many levels. First, how do you have a weapon or knife to behead someone on a bus. Second, what the heck were the other passengers on the bus doing while this took place? Did they think they were watching gladiators at the Coliseum in Rome?

From what I’ve learned through the articles (www.ctv.ca) is that the passengers initally thought it was a brawl. When they saw the knife they got all the young children, mothers etc off the bus. When they got back on to stop him it was too late, Li was already severing the Tim’s head. They weren’t gawking or whatever you are trying to imply. They were trying to get the people who couldn’t defend themselves out of harms way.
I don’t know where you got your info from but it’s a bit off. Here is the details of this bizarre and extremely disturbing case. No one deserves this.
Victim sleeping when attack began
Witnesses said the victim got on the bus in Edmonton, while his attacker came aboard in Brandon and sat away from the victim toward the front of the bus, they said. After a short cigarette break, however, the attacker moved his belongings and chose a seat beside the young man.
Garnet Caton, who was sitting in the seat in front of the victim, said the young man was sleeping with his headphones on when he was attacked.
Caton said he heard a “blood-curdling scream” and turned around to see the attacker holding a large hunting knife and repeatedly stabbing the victim.
ever try to intervene in a knife fight—with a perpetrator who is holding a huge knife and is pumped up with super adrenalin? How exactly would you disarm such an individual? He’s got the KNIFE, a seriously vicious weapon, and you have your hands and arms.
By the time witnesses tried to intervene, the victim had already been stabbed repeatedly.
Now if witnesses had a gun, different story possibly. Gun vs knife; I’d take those odds. My hands vs. a crazed butcher with a knife. no thank you. Simply common sense.
Ah, crazy! This suspect is clearly mentally ill. Perhaps Schizophrenic. A random, unfortunate occurrence.
Why did it have to be somebody named TIM? Why?
A lot of people seem to not understand the circumstances of this thing. It was on a bus, which is a long, narrow enclosed space with a narrow aisle down the middle, and the seats on a Greyhound are pretty high-backed because they’re intended to seat adults and to be somewhat comfortable for long road trips. Li was crazy enough, or whatever, to have stood up and done this to another human being. There wasn’t enough room to safely do something about this guy in a way that wouldn’t have cost more lives, period. There were little kids present, and Li could have harmed them, or the other passengers might have stampeded over them. Same for the old people. It just wasn’t a good situation for anybody to play hero.
A lot of people are drawing parallels to the 9/11 attacks and Tim Beamer and his co-passengers stopping the hijackers on the plane that went down in Pennsylvania. Different situation entirely. Those criminals were at least rational enough that the passengers knew they would not be immediately mown down. The passengers also knew what had happened in NYC and DC and that they would not survive the flight any way you looked at it. They were literally backed into a corner and they figured they might as well stop the terrorists before their own plane could be used as a weapon.
The passengers on the Greyhound had choices. They didn’t have to put themselves in almost certain harm’s way, so they didn’t. As a result everyone but Tim survived, and by the time Tim screamed he was dead anyway. From the accounts of blood spraying everywhere even while he was screaming, arteries had been severed and even had there been doctors and a surgical theater RIGHT THERE to save him, they would likely have lost him–no way could they have gotten him to a hospital in time. It came down to preserving his corpse for burial, really, and while I understand the family’s feelings in that matter, I can’t see how preserving a dead body is more important than preventing the creation of more dead bodies.
I am just sickened by this event, though, and my heart goes out to his family. I have a twelve-year-old son and I just can’t imagine what they must be going through.
Dana,it was TODD Beamer,not Tim Beamer who was on the 9/11 plane.Yes,no one could save him,when your in that crazed state of mind doing that you don’t notice anyone else but what your attacking…I heard he sent a ex girlfriend a text message minutes before saying he cant wait to see her when he gets home
Wait a minute. What did that guy down there say? It was’nt a good situation for anybody to try to save this guys life because a kid might possibly have been trampled if someone had tried to help? You’re sick buddy. This godlike perception of children is getting old. I’m sure there are some good reasons for people to have just gotten the heck off the bus, but being sure not to trample a dang kid is not one of them.
I pray for your family Tim & Hope that those who were thre to witness such a tramatic thing get the help and comfort that they deserve.

Indeed, the “Monday morning quarterback” syndrome is, and will be, in full swing for quite some time, …. and the various “why” scenarios will be thrown out;
- why didn’t the other passengers try to intervene (survival instinct? If they would have, we may have had more victims)
- was Vince Li a victim of the mental health care system (perhaps)…
but the victim is Tim McLean and that is what counts in the end.

Once again a member of a “minority group” demonstrates where multiculturalism is leading. America could take a lesson from Canada’s stupid excesses. I suppose this Li character will end up getting a slap on the wrist from the Canadian justice system.
Thank God we still have judges and juries in the USA with enough backbone execute this kind of garbage.
I don’t understand how one man with a knife could still be standing when there were 37 people on that bus. Spineless people that are cowards. It was a knife, not a gun and 1 guy couldn’t stand up to 37 people. He shouldn’t be going to court, he should have been buried somewhere. I’m from canada and believe he should be executed, cause i don’t feel that taxes should go to worthless garbage like Li. Hope li rots in hell.

How can you blame this on immigrants? Sure, the man came from a different part of the world, but you can’t jump to the conclusion that his ethnicity was the cause of this. HE was a sick, morbid person; there is no correlation between that and the color of his skin. He could have just as easily been a canadian.
