Live blogging, round-by-round, of tonight’s Welterweight ‘Dream Match’ between Oscar De La Hoya and Manny Pacquiao Tonight’s fight takes place at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
It should be a great fight between ‘The Golden Boy’ and ‘Pacman.’
(Refresh for updates, round-by-round resluts and the winner)
Both fighters have made long and slow walks to the ring and the moment of truth is upon us.
“Let’s Get Ready to Rumble” - Fight Time!
It looks to be a very pro-Pacquiao crowd.
The two proud fighters knock gloves and here we go!
Round 1: If the winner will be determined based on ring appearance then De La Hoya should win by a landslide, but let’s not underestimate the heart of mini-Pac. Several jabs by Oscar which is followed by a decent combo by Manny. Hook by Manny barely missed Oscar. Both men are getting in solid punches and each at times here in the first round look to be in control of the fight. Oscar finishes with a flury of punches. A very close first round. Pacquiao 10-9
Round 2: Manny is far and away the aggressor early in round two. He is landing combos against Oscar as the Golden Boy is looking a bit flat footed. Oscar is keeping Manny honest though. Oscar is looking slow and could go out early to a KO. Manny is looking alive but too alive? If he doesn’t get a knockout soon he might muster out of energy. Manny landed many more punches in round two. Oscar’s face has at least one welt so far. Pacquiano 10-9
Round 3: Oscar comes out with more fire power to start round three. Oscar is throwing some huge punches but missing. He is looking old, tired, and frustrated. Oscar finally lands his hardest jab of the night. Manny is not chop liver this round. He is remaining strong and pacing himself a bit better. I’ll give this one to Oscar, maybe out of respect as it was close. De La Hoya 10-9
Round 4: De La Hoya is slow and his hands are feeling like concrete. Manny lands a combo to Oscar’s chin. Oscar might not last much longer. Manny is the superior fighter tonight so far. A body shot and then a punch to the head for Manny. Pacman is now teasing DLH and getting cocky and confident. De La Hoya looks lost. Pacquiano 10-9
Round 5: De La Hoya is a duck dead in the water. He can’t even seem to fight the power to pack a power punch. It will be a miracle if the Golden Boy can hang in there until decision time. Manny has almost the entire crowd on their feet. They are sensing a knockout on the horizon. Four or five hooks by Oscar to finish the round. Not enough for me. Pacquiano 10-9
Round 6: Both men are jabbing to start the sixth. Can Oscar come from behind and surprise everyone? Does he have that one magical punch left in him? Doubtful! However Manny is starting to look tired and winded. Both men are holding back and anticipating one punch to end it all. OMG, Oscar’s skull just got rocked by Pacquiano. Four punch combo by Manny before the bell and he takes another round. Pacquiano 10-9
Round 7: Manny keeps landing punch after punch….and Oscar has quit punching. Oscar looks like he is ready for Manny to man up and finish him off so he can collect his check. Oscar in need of a miraculous miracle. This is worse than when Robin Ventura charged the mound against Nolan Ryan. Pacquiano 10-9
Round 8: Oscar finally shows some fire but Manny has never quit with his inferno gloves of doom. Very close to this one being over. About three solid punches from a Manny dance of victory. And Oscar makes it to the bell. Pacquiano 10-8
Round 9: Oh it could be the end! Lots of talking in Oscar’s corner with Oscar not doing much of it….and that’s it. De La Hoya doesn’t answer the bell in the ninth.
Oscar De La Hoya admits defeat to Manny Pacquiano.
WINNER: Manny Pacquiano
