An American who went missing after falling overboard a Norwegian Pearl cruise ship might still be alive, U.S. Coast Guard officials believe.

There is a good chance Jennifer Seitz is still alive if she is in good physical condition and grabbed a flotation device before she fell, said Petty Officer Nick Ameen, a Coast Guard spokesman.

Water temperatures in the Gulf are relatively warm — somewhere in the mid-70s — so hypothermia would not pose a danger to her.

I would love for Jennifer to be found alive, but what are the chances that she managed to grab a flotation device as she fell off the ship?

Seitz, who may be a Houston resident, was last seen at roughly 8 p.m. EST Thursday, though her husband reportedly did not notice her missing until 3:50 a.m. the following morning.

Maybe there was foul play… I mean I’m pretty sure my husband would notice I was missing before 4am, but whatever.

The Illinois House committee investigating a possible impeachment of Gov. Rod Blagojevich won’t subpoena two incoming White House advisers, despite a request from the governor’s attorney.

U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald in a letter on Friday asked the special investigative committee specifically to not subpoena President-elect Barack Obama adviser Valerie Jarrett, incoming chief of staff Rahm Emanuel, U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. and Nils Larsen, a Tribune Co. executive vice president.

Fitzgerald said any such subpoenas “would interfere with the ongoing criminal investigation into the activities of Governor Rod Blagojevich and others.”

The 52-year-old Democrat was arrested on Dec. 9 and charged with scheming to sell President-elect Barack Obama‘s vacant Senate seat to the highest bidder, a charge the governor denies.

And what does Blagovich have to say about the scandal?

“Even in this process, without saying too much, that was all about trying to end up with the right decision that could do the most things for the people of Illinois, and when the full truth is told, you will see precisely that,” Blagojevich said.

“If somehow that’s impeachable, then I’m on the wrong planet and I’m living in the wrong place,” he said.

Well, I guess then you better move to another planet, Blago.

Israeli forces sent more than 100 tons of bombs on the Gaza Strip in one of the bloodiest days in decades of Israeli-Palestinian fighting. The attack killed more than 200 Palestinians and wounded at least 400 more.

But there doesn’t seem to be a light at the end of this tragic tunnel:

Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak said his country “cannot really accept” a ceasefire with Hamas. “For us to be asked to have a ceasefire with Hamas is like asking you to have a ceasefire with Al Qeada,” said Barak, in the televised interview Saturday afternoon. ” It’s something we cannot really accept.”

Some of the Israeli missiles struck in densely populated areas as students were leaving school, and women rushed into the streets frantically looking for their children. At least 15 civilians were killed, officials said.

The offensive began eight days after a six-month truce between Israel and the militants expired. The Israeli army says Palestinian militants have fired some 300 rockets and mortars at Israeli targets over the past week, and 10 times that number over the past year.

“There is a time for calm and there is a time for fighting, and now is the time for fighting,” said Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak, vowing to expand the operation if necessary.

“There are heads without bodies …. There’s blood in the corridors. People are weeping, women are crying, doctors are shouting, ” said nurse Ahmed Abdel Salaam from Shifa Hospital, Gaza’s main treatment center.

Gaza’s political leaders are in currently in hiding. Perhaps they need to step out and take charge so innocent children can be spared of the horror and killings. Just a thought.

The death of a beautiful 23 year old model, Sahar Daftary, has uncovered the world of Muslim polygamy in England. She died shortly after discovering that her husband of one year, Rashid Jamil, 33, was already married. He was arrested on suspicion of murder, but bailed by police after they found no evidence that the death was anything other than an accident or suicide.

Dafarty fell 150 feet from the twelfth story of a block of apartments where she had gone to collect her belongings from her businessman husband.

Ghayasuddin Siddiqui, the head of the Muslim Parliament of Great Britain, told The Times: “This story is very common, unfortunately. We have tried to plug some of the holes in the whole system, but unfortunately our clerics do not live on this planet.”

“They don’t understand. For them, controlling the sexuality of the woman is far more important than justice, so we have this problem.�?

Daftary also wanted to arrange an Islamic divorce from him. She had undergone a Muslim wedding ceremony in Brentford, West London, only to learn later that her husband already had a wife. Islam traditionally allows husbands to take up to four wives at a time.

I guess Sahar wasn’t down with that whole other wives thing. Hopefully they find out what really happened to her.

As if it wasn’t obvious enough that the Santa massacre killer Bruce Pardo was evil, more details have emerged as it why his marriage dissolved that sent him into the rage. His wife found out that he had abandoned a brain damaged son in a wheelchair  years before, but was still claiming him for a tax write-off.

When his wife Sylvia sought a divorce, Pardo evicted her from their home, piling her belongings on the street, the newspaper reported. The couple reached a “full settlement” in their divorce about a week before the slaughter, ending a marriage the divorce judge said nothing could save.

Police believe he intended to flee to Canada after the Christmas Eve massacre, but his Santa suit melted on his body, leaving him with third-degree burns on both arms. Pardo later shot himself at his brother’s home, where authorities found $17,000 on him and a plane ticket for a flight from Los Angeles to Canada.

Another depressing detail, police have uncovered another body at the murder site, bringing the total dead count to nine plus Pardo, but he obviously wasn’t human.

In a ploy to be elected Chairman of the Republican National Committee, Chip Saltsman- Mike Huckabee‘s presidential campaign manager- sent out a CD spoof of of political songs by conservative satirist Paul Shanklin. Included was one entitled “Barack the Magic Negro“, and it has gotten Saltsman in a lot of trouble with his party. Current RNC Chairman Mike Duncan had this to say:

“The 2008 election was a wake-up call for Republicans to reach out and bring more people into our party. I am shocked and appalled that anyone would think this is appropriate as it clearly does not move us in the right direction,” he said.

The 41-track CD, called “We Hate the USA,” contained other songs slamming liberal targets, according to The Hill, such as “Wright Place, Wrong Pastor,” “Love Client #9″ and “The Star Spanglish Banner.”

Brad Pitt and ex-wife Jennifer Aniston reunited this weekend, sort of. Both of them had movies opening on Christmas Day and together they set a box office record.

Aniston’s Marley & Me, a feel-good movie costarring Owen Wilson about a young family and mischievous dog, was the leader of the pack, grossing $14.8 million, the highest one-day total ever for a film opening on Christmas.

But Pitt’s The Curious Case of Benjamin Button wasn’t far behind. The film, about the life-long romance between a man who ages in reverse (Pitt) and a woman (Cate Blanchett), set the record for the second-highest Christmas opening of all-time with $11.8 million.

Both films exceeded box office expectations by 40-50 percent, Variety reports.

This probably wasn’t the reunion some fans were hoping for, but hey, at least all that money might help the economy! Yeh, probably not.
