Charlie Chaplin’s Son Sydney Passes Away
Sydney Chaplin, the son of famous actor Charlie Chaplin, has passed away in California at the age of 82.
“He had the natural equipment, but wonderful wit and the ability to mimic,” Englund said. “He had a natural baritone voice, he had tremendous color and magnetism on the stage. He had tremendous wit, which his father didn’t have at all. His impersonations and improvisations were of a different order of magnitude.”
Chaplin won a Tony for his lead role in “The Bells Are Ringing” in 1957 and was nominated for a Tony for his role opposite Barbra Streisand in “Funny Girl.”
Sydney was directed by his father in ‘Limelight’ (1952) and ‘A Countess from Hong Kong’ (1966). He is survived by his wife Margret and son Stephan.
