Actor Ron Silver Dead at 62
Actor Ron Silver has died at the age of 62 from esophageal cancer. Silver was best known for his roles on The West Wing, Reversal of Fortune and as Angelo Dundee in Ali.
“Ron Silver died peacefully in his sleep with his family around him this morning,” Robin Bronk, executive director of the Creative Coalition, said in a statement to the New York Post. Silver had helped found the group, which supports a range of liberal causes.
Silver, a onetime liberal activist and Actor’s Equity Association union leader, later became involved in Republican politics, even speaking at the party’s 2004 convention.
Silver, a lifetime liberal was profoundly changed by the 9/11 World Trade Center attacks. He kept his core liberal social beliefs, but he became a fan of President George W. Bush and his war on terror. Silver eventually spoke at the 2004 Republican National Convention.
