The question this morning is: where the heck is Matt Lauer?? The truth is always stranger than fiction and The Today Show host is currently recovering from a serious bicycle accident, according to good friend Meredith Vieira.

Apparently Matt was happily enjoying his bike ride in Long Island, when a cute little deer darted into the road. To avoid injuring the poor animal, Matt quickly braked to avoid veering into the venison and the sudden stop sent him flying over the handlebars.

“He was riding his bike over the weekend and he had a run-in with a deer,” Today show cohost Meredith Vieira explained on this morning’s broadcast.

“He apparently dislocated his shoulder and he’s at the doctor’s this morning.”

Vieira said her early morning colleague sent her an email to explain the unusual situation and air his suspicions that “the deer was hired by the competition.”

“I hired the deer, but I said just graze him,” she joked.

This is just too ridiculous to be true! No word about the deer’s health condition or if it will need therapy after the horrible accident. Hopefully Matt will make a quick return to The Today Show!!
