Can Gay Contestant Adam Lambert Win American Idol?
The New York Times posted an interesting article on Adam Lambert’s chances to become the next American Idol as his sexual orientation might be a disadvantage when it comes to the final choice.
Several photos of the 26 year-old dressed as a drag queen and kissing guys hit the web (photos), which fueled rumors Adam might be gay. Other signals include Adam’s song choices, theatrical style and the fact he preferred dressing up instead of playing sports as a child.
Is America ready to have a gay idol? Everybody is waiting for a season finale between Kris Allen and Adam Lambert, but Kris’ boyband look might give him the upper hand in a country that is still not ready to accept same sex marriages.
Times have changed! I don’t think that it matters if Adam is gay or not anymore. It doesn’t matter if he dresses like a girl and wears make-up. Metrosexual is the new black!
The new American Idol will be chosen by popular vote and Adam is the most popular contestant and most talented in group. Is Adam Lambert gay?? Does it really matters?? Speak your mind and post your comments below…

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with voting for a gay idol – in fact, if you think he’s the best performer, then you should vote based on that.
However, I do think honesty is key. If Adam misleads his fans, I think he will pay for that.
It shouldn’t matter if he is gay or not, and it doesn’t matter to me, but it might to some people. However, I do think he is in the lead and will probably end up winning the entire competition. Kris also has a shot as you said, he is really hot and talented, but Adam sort of surpasses him in vocals and definetly in creativity of the arrangements and things like that. Either way, I’m sure they will both have very successful careers because they both have something that makes them relevant to the music business(Adam-voice, uniqueness, unique look; Kris-voice, soothing vocals, & a great look).

And I agree people should vote on the best performer, and he is for sure that. He is an amazing singer and has great talent, I think people centering on his orientation are just crazy. It’s not called Gay Idol or Not! I think the stink people are making of it is crazy.
We already have a gay idol runner-up, Clay Aiken. And if you didn’t know Clay was gay before his big come out, then you are blind. So this is no big deal.

He is by far the most unique, interesting, exciting, and talented contestant so far to hit this show in 8 seasons! He’s is humble and kind… We should not care what his sexual orientation is.. The people that focus on that obviously don’t have enough going on in their lives if they need to pay such attention to who is in his. We are here to choose the best performer, not judge anything else!

Wow, that comment is so ignorant of discrimination in this country. What does it mean to “dress like a girl”? Most girls dress like “boys,” and the fact that it’s not okay for men to do the opposite is a sure sign of discrimination and the fact that cultural symbols of masculinity are viewed as more desirable than those of femininity. It’s okay to be a man, but not to be a girl. Add to that the fact that ALL people who perform on television wear make-up, and the discrimination is blatant. The problem isn’t actually make-up, it’s doing things that society associates with being female, i.e. wearing make-up that is more popular among women than men.
Secondly, “metrosexual”? That’s is a sad idea propagated by some such as “Queer Eye for a Straight Guy.” It has nothing to do with sexuality. It’s a matter of gender norms and how men on T.V. are “feminized” because just as women were historically visual objects for both men and women (and still are), male celebrities are now visual objects. For example, everyone talks about what Michelle Obama wears, but no one cares about what Barack Obama wears – Obama’s not just up there to be admired, but to get things done, so traditional gender distinctions apply. Plus, he’s gender normative himself and doesn’t believe in gay rights.
Thirdly, black people should not be exoticized. Even since the time of Elvis Presley, white racists have adopted black culture without giving up their racism.
YES IT DOES MATTER IF HE IS GAY…..and these photos floading around the internet. It they are reallly Adam…he should be removed from American Idol. I remember a couple of seasons, people where removed because of situations similiar to this. Teenagers love this show….and an American Idol should be someone who they look up too… I really don’t care who wins because the true AMERICAN IDOL is already on the stage…DANNY…he is showing what real TALENT, LOVE, COMMITMENT, AND FOLLOWING your dream is all about. Well first off, to those who say honesty is key, he hasn’t confirmed or denied anything, and unless he comes out and says he is heterosexual and it turns out to be a lie later on, then he hasn’t deceived anyone. Besides, what business is it of anyone’s what he does behind closed doors? It’s just like the problems people have with gay marriage. Adam Lambert is the most extraordinary and most talented person in all of American Idol history! His gender preference has nothing to do with what he can do to entertain us, audience, nor can affect his winning the season 8 American Idol because his voice is absolutely brilliant and flawless. Talent is what matters most on that show, not the gender. If he prefers to be gay, so be it.. nothing wrong with that! There are so many gay singers and entertainers around the world that are very famous and are selling millions of records. Adam is by far the best performer I’ve ever seen in all 8 seasons of American Idol, so please, to all of you out there, don’t judge Adam by his gender preference nor his style or manner of dressing, but by his ability to entertain us with his stunning voice.

Haven’t seen this in the previous american idol. Plus “entertainment” is the key element here. He does that every single week. He is also in a league on his own. Elliot Yamin in one of his interview said that “adam is the most unique singer in AI”. I believe he will continue to shine and we have to continue america to vote for him week after week. Next to him, i think Danny Gokey has the nicest voice and personality.

My, my – it is still a very very mad world. I am a 50 year old mother (in Canada) of two teenagers and I say wake up Americans, all of you who are obsessing over Adam’s being gay or not. You just elected your first black president because he was the best man for the job. Let Adam win because he is the very best singer and entertainer and therefore deserves the idol title, not lose because you think he is be gay. Adam comes across to me as a wonderful role model (AND IDOL) for my kids (and they agree) and this has nothing to do with his sexual orientation. He is sincere, respectful, appreciative, confident and very passionate about what he does and doing his best to follow his dreams and share his god given talents yet stay humble at the same time. I would be only be too proud to have him as my own son and I was glad to see his own parents in all the videos as they come across as very loving and supportive. As for comments about him being dishonest, I have no idea whatsoever what those people are talking about. Why should Adam or any other contestant have to answer any questions about sexual orientation whatever that may happen to be? If I were him, I’d continue to set an example by treating it as the nonissue it should be too. Adam’s choice of Mad World for birth year song gave me a lot of pause for thought too. It made me think of all the pain we inflict on each other because of our differences – the bullying, gay bashing, stigmatization and discrimination of all other sorts- none of which have any bearing on our worth as human beings and universal need for love and acceptance. Why not give our attention and energy to that which really matters and stop wasting precious time on irrelevant issues. Go, adam and wishing you all the success and happiness you so richly deserve! This is a talent contest, and the best wins. Adam’s the best. If he ends up a teen star too, because the kids love him, they’ll listen to his music which will be decent because he has attracted a different audience so it will won’t be crap, hang his pictures up, and go to school, where they’ll educate themselves. He won’t do Disney, but that’s Okay. He will have no negative affect on them at all. They’ll say the same thing too. So, what. That can all be separated from one’s mind. He has the whole package.

I don’t think Adam is the best singer or an American Idol. I was very disappointed when he ruined the Johnny Cash song and that was before all the gay info about him was swarming. Danny Gokey is the best in the competition, he has the whole package and is someone American can be proud of! American Idol has been a show that the whole family can watch together. Encouraging the type of show that involves explanations to children is going to lose alot of viewers. Let’s see more programing that everyone can watch. Carrie Underwood and David Cook are a class act. I like good rock, but it doesn’t have to be filled with innuendo and questionable lyrics. I am reading this at 3AM Singapore time. Adam has many supporters in Singapore, but we could not vote for him. We are just excited about watching his performances every week, even my husband was awfully impressed by his vocals (he does not watch idol by the way) and all of us definitely cant be bothered if he is gay or not. Adam is A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!!!! He has the best vocals I have ever heard and he truly can bring something extraordinary to the music industry. If he doesn’t win against Kris Allen, then America obviously gets it ALL WRONG!!!! Kris is very talented, and if Adam was not in the competition, he probably would have been my choice. But Adam simply brings something that no other contestant was able to bring: originality, flair, and most importantly KILLER VOCALS. And if America is going to vote based on sexual orientation, it will be very disapointing. The show isn’t called Straight Idol, it’s called American Idol. The last time I checked, talent had nothing to do with sexual orientation. Adam deserve to win and have a brilliant career and I’m sure that he will bring a lot more to the table than Kris will ever be able to.

Lambert doesn’t owe anyone anything but a great performance – and that he does incredibly each week. To those who complain about pictures – then why are you looking at them? To Sassy who says her little girls are scandalized – then, why the heck, are they watching his performances? There’s far worse to get your knickers in a twist in today’s culture than a great singer. Lambert has no obligation to blather about his private life as so many creepy celebs do today. The guy’s classy as well as in a class of his own. These prissy complainers give religion a bad name.

They shall be an abomination to you; you shall not eat their flesh, but you shall regard their carcasses as an abomination. Leviticus 11, 1-8: “Nevertheless these you shall not eat among those that chew the cud or those that have cloven hooves:… the swine, though it divides the hoof, having cloven hooves, yet does not chew the cud, is unclean to you. Their flesh you shall not eat, and their carcasses you shall not touch. They are unclean to you.’”
You’ll find more in Deutreronomy 14. Of course, Paul, in II Corinthians 7:1 reminds us, “Do not touch what is unclean.”

It is not Biblically clear whether God had, or was going to give man permission to kill and eat other living creatures in the beginning. But it is clear that man has the right to eat animal flesh today and will eat meat even after the return of Jesus Christ. Notice Luke 22:15-16 -”I (Jesus) have earnestly desired to eat this Passover (lamb) with you before I suffer; for I say to you, I shall never again eat it until it is fulfilled in the Kingdom of God.”
Many erroneously assume that the term “clean and unclean animal” came from Leviticus, the Israelite book of the Law. Leviticus 11 does give specific instructions on what the Israelites were allowed to eat, and what they were not. But God made distinctions between animals being clean and unclean long before Moses, or even Abraham. The first Biblical reference is found in the flood account in Genesis 7, where God instructed Noah to take one pair of unclean animals aboard the Ark, but seven pairs of clean animals.
How do you suppose Noah knew how to do this? Isn’t it obvious that he knew the difference between the clean and the unclean animals? It was either common knowledge of his day, or God directly taught him at this time in order to carry this health law over into the post-flood world Why do you suppose God commanded Noah to take seven pairs of clean animals? Isn’t it logical to assume it was because they were given to man as food? Genesis 9 records God’s blessing to Noah.
In Verse 2, God gives every living thing into his hand. Now notice Verses 3-4 -”Every moving thing that is alive shall be food for you; I give all to you, as I gave the green plant. Only you shall not eat flesh with its life, that is, its blood.”
If we are to believe that “every moving thing” included unclean animals as well as clean animals, then what was the purpose for identifying some as clean? For example: If we were to judge an animal clean or unclean by its appearance or habits, wouldn’t a rabbit (unclean) seem cleaner than a chicken (clean)? But the chicken is a clean animal, while the rabbit is an unclean animal. The reference to being clean must have meant it was clean to eat. This was immediately after the flood while yet there were only single pairs of unclean animals. One male and one female in order that they may reproduce and replenish the earth. Had Noah taken this blessing from God to mean he could eat one of the unclean animals, it would have defeated the very purpose of saving them from the flood. It would mean the extinction of a species.
Notice also that God said “as I gave (you) the green plant.” God did give every green plant to man, but did He give every plant to him for food? Man cannot literally eat every green plant that grows out of the ground, because some are poisonous, aren’t they? Surely God did not give man poisonous herbs as food. Just as every green plant that God caused to grow out of the ground was not designed for food, so it is with animal flesh. God told Noah to store food in the Ark for himself and his family as well as for the animals. Genesis 6 tells us this food was from the growth of the ground. Notice Verse 21 -”And as for you, take for yourself some of all food WHICH IS EDIBLE, and gather it to yourself; and it shall be for food for you and for them.” (family) Notice that God instructed Noah to gather “what was edible.” Noah knew what plants were good for food and which were not.
The common concept of the dietary instructions of Leviticus 11 and Deuteronomy 14, is that they are ceremonial laws made only to remind the children of Israel that they alone were clean among the nations. Few today, believe that they were given as food laws to insure proper nutrition. But if this is true, then why did God make the same distinctions in Noah’s day? And why did He command Noah to take seven pairs of clean animals aboard the Ark?
Some argue that the reason for saving seven pairs of clean animals was for sacrificial use. It is true that clean animals such as lambs, goats and bulls were sacrificed, but what about all the clean animals mentioned in Leviticus and Deuteronomy that were never used as sacrifices to God? If the purpose was for sacrifices only, God could have simply told Noah to take extra sheep, cattle and goats. But the fact that God gave Noah the right to kill and eat animal flesh immediately after the deluge, makes it reasonable to believe that the extra clean animals were primarily to be food for man. Also, because of the devastating effect the raging waters would have had on the land, washing the top soil away; Noah and his family would probably have to live a while without vegetables. Although, they no doubt took a good supply aboard the Ark, it would probably not be enough to sustain them through the flood and up until the time they were able to plant and harvest a crop. Noah, his wife, three sons and their wives survived the flood. They would need food during this time of transition. The extra pairs of clean animals would suffice nicely.

I think he is hot and I love his voice, his versatility on stage and can not wait to buy any and all of his albums! He is real and cares about people! Rock on Adam! Stay who you are and never give in to what fame can do to some…just be you!

Just proves that America is one of the most bigoted countries out there. I only watched 2 shows which included the finale and before the voting made a comment on how he would not win because most but not all fans that support him would probably shun his goth/gay counterparts if they saw them walking down the sidewalks. This means that how would anyone else be able to except him especially preadolescent children who are encouraged by the media and entertainment industry to pick what is “attractive” and “acceptable.” I won’t even begin to start with the people who cling on to their religions. Hell, if Obama was a couple shades darker and not half white, Hilary would’ve won easily.

America disgusts me more and more with each passing year. Were you guys thrilled when you saw Kris Allen, the straight, “CLEAN”, fairly talented chap with wife to boot win? I’m sure u did – because that is your perception of an ‘ideal’ family. And then there’s Adam Lambert, rock star image, gay (only because u wanted to find out by digging into his closet and make urselves feel better), and an extraordinary voice… for those of u who say he’s ‘wailing’… please don’t show us how tone deaf you are. All those Bible toting, hypocritical narrow-mined numbskulls should seriously consider all the damage they are doing to their own children by showing them their intolerance and the injustice. These are the same people who express contra behaviour. I watch this show with my parents and the fact that they are so open minded and appreciate his talent irrespective of the fact that he is gay or not, teaches me to treat people equally, be unbiased, show love, be justful and learn so many more values than any Holy Book can teach you. Whether someone is gay or not is completely irrelevant and should not even be at the forefront of anyone’s mind. And whether they have all the talent in the world or couldn’t sing their way out of a paper bag is neither here nor there. The only thing that should matter is if that person(s) is a good person. Get over it people. LGBT is a fact of life. It is not going to go away anytime soon. So get over yourselves.
