Miss California USA Carrie Prejean Controversy (Photos + Video)

carrie-prejean-miss-usa-california

The first runner-up Miss California USA Carrie Prejean of San Diego was involved in controversy last night at the Miss USA 2009 pageant, when she had to answer a question about same-sex marriages by one of the judges, famous celebrity blogger Perez Hilton.

Perez Hilton: “Vermont recently became the 4th state to legalize same-sex marriage. Do you think every state should follow suit. Why or why not?”

Carrie Prejean: “Well I think its great that Americans are able to choose one or the other. We live in a land where you can choose same-sex marriage or opposite marriage. And you know what, in my country, in my family, I think that I believe that a marriage should be between a man and a woman. No offense to anybody out there, but that’s how I was raised and that’s how I think it should be between a man and a woman. Thank you very much.”

This was charged question but it could have been answered gracefully (“I wish for World peace!”) without causing all this controversy. For the first time in pageant history, a Miss USA contestant was booed by the audience and called a “dumb b*tch” by Perez – congratulations to Carrie Prejean!!

Hooray for Carrie for not folding and saying what the crowd wanted to hear, but what she believed. Agree with her or not, she’s got backbone. Good for her.

She is a winner…in the greatest category of all. Standing for what she believes to be right. And her believe is the right one…all the self indulgent people can say what they will but truth is truth and she stand for it and I am very proud to know there are still young adults out there who will hold the banner high and stand against the evils in this world. Homosexuality is a sin and needs to be stood against…just as she did. Carrie you are a much greater winner than anyone I have heard of in a long time. God bless you for standing for right and your parents for raising a girl to make a stand for what is right in front of people who are ready to judge her wrongly.

This young lady went to college with my son. She is one of the most giving and nice people I’ve met. She has a strong faith in God and it is a same that Hilton brought a question like the gay marriage issue into this contest. I applaude Carrie for standing by her faith and doing the right thing.

I say to those who ridiculed her for her faith. Shame on you!…and Shame on Hilton for setting this tone with a question that was totally inappropriate for the Miss USA venue.

Thank you Carrie! The left is all for Free Speech as long as they agree with it. Thank you for being a thoughtful moral person. The left cannot understand rational, analytical thought. Who is Prez Hilton anyhow? Never heard of him/her. Have you bitten your tongue you would have clearly been the winner.

Good for you Carrie! Shame on those who even asked this guy to be a judge. Marriage is a union between a man and a woman…there is no other option! Gay people are without Christ and we can’t expect them the react any other way. There’s always such hostility with homosexuals and the Lord will deal with them ALL!!! Sodom and Gomorrah ring a bell?

Hilton never should have asked the question… the answer was bound to upset part of the audience. It was a tacky move by a complete jerk. However, a Lady would have gracefully avoided the question. She proved herself a fool and a biggot.

Carrie is a winner in the Lord’s court and she will indeed wear a crown worthy of wearing! She was tested and withstood the fire. Better to have the riches that God has to offer than anything the world could give. What a brave young woman to stand true to the Lord. What a shining example for all to have seen.

shame on you for shaming us! so if she would have said otherwise you would have been upset…frankly Perez Hilton (whom if you don’t know who he is you haven’t been paying much attention of the world around you!) asked a GREAT question. Its an issue people want to sweep under the rug and if someone wants to be in the public figure such as Miss California —A STATE WHERE THIS SUBJECT IS A CONTROVERSY then she needs to be ready for such questions and not feel that’s was an inappropriate question. —and for the bible swearing peeps, yea —–ignorance is bliss since when does the bible say you”ll wear a crown for discrimination! Its negative words as those that brings teenagers to suicide when they don’t know how to pretend to be straight!

I am proud of this young lady…she would have been a great role model for our future generations Yes her job as Miss USA would have been to unite, but to do so using good morals…and that is exactly what she was trying to express. The Bible says that marriage should be between a man and a woman. That is what it is! Also, if she is so dumb, what do you call someone who was SOOO involved in this pagent that they don’t even know who walked away a winner. Hello!!! Anyways…I pray that you will see the light and that you will ask for forgiveness…God does forgive! Way to go little lady…my children needed to hear that ;)

Someone called her a fool and biggot. I guess in this country if you have morals and believe in God you are going to be called names. That’s ok the bible said people who follow the Lord would be treated as such.
First of all I do not think religion and politics should be part of the pageant.
So he asks the question and then did not agree with her answer because he is a gay man. So because he is gay and part of Hollywood I guess he does not have to act in a professional and respectful manner. Of course Hollywood is full of phonies anyway. I mean they call come on tv and ask the rest of the country for money for charities when if they all gave a million dollars they could put an end to the homeless problem and feed the hungry. They make so much money for doing films and then they ridicule others for having morals.
I am proud of her for standing up for what she believes in. He stood up for his beliefs but she does the same and he hangs his head even after she was respectful about it. I think he is the fool not her.

Carrie sounded like a complete idiot. We would expect our Miss USA to be eloquent and intelligent, not some bimbo. That is how she came across. I don’t think it was her answer as much as it was the way in which she stumbled through an answer. It is a timely and yet controversial question, yet whether you agree or disagree with the subject of the question, you have to acknowledge a lady, or debutante, must be able to cut through the question with style and grace to disarm you. What is opposite marriage anyways? She couldn’t do it, hence no win!!! Deserved what she got.

Homosexuality is a sexual addiction. Observe all other sexual behavior and what is defined as addiction and you will find these aren’t lifestyles. Marriage of one sex to the same sex is the practice of sex only. Love as applied by these addicts is merely an excuse to create the gloss of legitimacy for their sexual practices.
Carrie is absolutely correct. Homosexuals are as addicted to their sexual highs as much as are alcoholics or heroin addicts. Those who support this addiction are harming all of us.

Wow, May I never raise my child with hate in there heart such as some of these comments. (Speaking about god, I can believe and do believe without using him as a weapon for my own moral high ground) Slave owners used to feel god entitled them to slaves also. Straight people believes god forgives their divorces, extra marital affairs, and multiple marriages through multiple divorces.

I just saw Carrie’s interview on the Today show. What a refreshing moment to know that there are young woman who have convictions and are not willing to compromise their beliefs and values in order to win the crown. You are to be congratulated on your strength of character and willingness to take a stand on a difficult issue. I’m embarrassed for the Miss USA program that one of their judges wasn’t able to listen to your answer with more objectivity. His comment about Carrie was so inappropriate and should not be tolerated by the Miss USA program. An apology is in order, regardless of whether he liked her answer. Where is his tolerance for someone who has a different way of looking at his world?

I think it ludicris for the judges to ask such a question and then penalize an open honest answer!!!! I am appalled at their intolerance to this young woman’s opinion and having it cost her the competition just proves how petty and volitile the left wing activists can be, and this proves how they are trying to silence a free America by creating a sense of fear to speak one’s own opinion!!!
      THIS IS TRUE INTOLERANCE!!!

You may have lost this crown dear…but you have won the greater crown of integrity in the face of obnoxiousness….there is a much greater crown waiting for you!

Already, no one remembers who won the pageant, but no one will forget the stand that Miss Prejean took.
At a time when it’s difficult to even tell if anyone’s a Christian anymore, it’s refreshing to see someone who refuses to compromise her beliefs.
At a time when ministers like Joel Osteen hesitate to say definitively that Jesus Christ is the only way to heaven, it’s good to see someone stand firm on biblical principles.
      Well done, young lady.

Those who espouse freedom of speech the most (people like Perez Hilton) are the first the try to silence anyone who does not agree with their opinion.

Personally, I am somewhere inbetween the two. I believe same-sex couples should have some type of legal union – I just don’t think it should be considered a “marriage.”

Miss California has earned a lot more respect from the public by answering the way she did. The media and wanna-bes like Perez Hilton are completely overlooking the first half of her response and attacking her for her personal beliefs.

There you have it folks. Miss USA will always be chosen on political and religious viewpoints. Forget the talent and beauty portion of the show. I applaud Carrie Prejean for standing firm to her opinion no matter what the cost. It is no longer popular being a Christian in America. This country has largely lost its moral compass. To Carrie Prejean, I say thank you and God bless you. I found your courage inspirational. America needs more people like you.

I’m so glad that she is NOT apologizing for what she said!! She is sticking by her values and the way her parents raised her. Everyone that is getting mad at her is a hypocrite. The gay community is upset that she doesn’t share their opinion. You are never going to have everyone in the country agree on a topic. Perez Hilton said that her answer to the question lost her the crown….doesn’t that mean that he just discriminated against her for her opinion? Good Job Miss California!! Sticking up for what you believe in, instead of saying what you think everyone wants to hear means more to you than a crown. Perez Hilton was a horrible choice for a judge. I wouldn’t even consider him a celebrity or someone that has a respectable opinion.

I think she gave a truthful and great answer. The majority of Americans are sick and tired of having homosexuality behavior cramed down our throats. It is not normal behavior no matter how much they try to pretend it is. They are sick, they know they are sick, and no amount of pretending can make it right.

Perez Hilton is a narrow-minded, cowardly, bigoted excuse for a human being. Many radio call-in shows have been deluged by those in the gay lifestyle who do not agree with him; namely, he lacks any grace or class at all. The young lady was asked for her opinion and she stalwartly gave it, without denigrating the homosexual lifestyle at all.

Just another example of how the left wing, gay, liberal anti-American forces are continuing to bring about the downfall of the United States of America! Just as Rome rotted from within before it fell, American conservativism is under attack, and what with the unbridled illegal immigration from south of the border, we will eventually feel the effects of our very own barbarian invasion! That was a great delivery Carrie. Judging solely on the manner in which she responded, I would have to give her high marks for expressing herself with grace and poise. To be fair, her reply should have been judged solely by the poise and style in the delivery of her response. Much like a figure skater is to be judged on skill and delivery, not the musical background to which they perform.

That was a great delivery Carrie. Judging solely on the manner in which she responded, I would have to give her reasonably high marks for expressing herself with grace and poise. To be fair, her reply should have been judged solely by the poise and style in the delivery of her response. Much like a figure skater is to be judged on skill and delivery, not the musical background to which they perform.

Perez Hilton ignored his duty to objectivity evaluate her delivery. He scored her response as zero solely because her answer differed from his opinion. That is no different than giving a fine figure skater at zero for a score simply because the judge did not like the music.

The score of zero was his way of punishing someone that disagreed with his personal opinion. He used no objectivity but chose to discriminate against her by giving a score of zero for her performance. The score of zero was the maximum “punishment” he could met out as a judge. Perez Hilton chose to deliver the maximum punishment within his capacity.

The lesson I have learned from this is crystal clear. I learned that it is perfectly OK and indeed highly desirable (by listening to his after the show commentary) and perfectly fair to penalize anyone that has a different opinion on that topic.

Since I have a differing opinion than Perez Hilton, as an employer that hires and fires, scores performance and determine merit increases in salary, I am now morally freed to discriminate against gays as I choose. Furthermore, I am free to use whatever means are in my power to mete out punishment to the fullest extent for the person that has a differing view. I can now refuse to hire a gay, deny a gay merit increase in salary not based on performance but simply because I have a differing opinion. Should I learn that an employee is a gay, I am now morally free to fire that person because I have a different opinion. Prior to this public display of permissible discrimination by Perez Hilton, I would have felt morally wrong to allow my negative opinion of gays to effect my judgment on hiring, firing, merit raises, etc. Now I am free to do as I please and rest with a clear conscience.

In conclusion I have to thank Perez Hilton for enlightening me on how I am to judge and punish gays in the future because I disagree with their opinion.

I would ban known Gay’s from any position of authority and personally will Never hire a homosexual in my business. She was very professional and correct in her answer. Biblically Homosexual’s are sinning against God and he condemns the activity. My response would have been that Gay’s or Lesbian’s are very Sick people and should be prosecuted for crimes against nature. It is unnatural and indicates a chemically unbalanced condition and is Sick. They need to be put back in the Closet and banned by society at all levels.

Carrie Prejean’s statement will be looked down upon in the future. This generation needs to speak to the future and pass legislation that will hold up 20 years from now.

It is sad to see how religion can twist people’s minds. How about we kill Galileo, teach the world was created on October 23, 4,004 B.C., outlaw divorce, outlaw abortion, and outlaw contraception. Religion has blinded so many people in this nation. It prevents us from having federally funded stem cell research (until Obama), euthanasia, and same-sex marriage. Beauty contests look not only at a person’s body, but also their character. Carrie Prejean looks good on the outside, but her values leave much to be desired. How about all of you behave like good Christians and love all of God’s children (and don’t give me that we love them but we oppose them argument).

God bless you ALL and may he further the success of the gay marriage movement. God loves ALL his children equally.

As for Perez Hilton, he had no right to call her a bitch. That was so rude of him. It made me so angry when I heard that he called her that awful name on the air. It’s not that Carrie is an awful person. On the contrary, I heard she is very kind. However, she said herself that she was raised to oppose gay marriage. And this is where the problem lies for all people who oppose gay marriage. Most Americans were just raised to oppose gay marriage. It is going to take a long time before gay marriage losses its negative image. Like racial marriage, it is just going to take time for this nation to progress.

It is sad to see American divided by culture wars.

Miss California Carrie Prejean I admire you very much. I have a 10 year old girl and I’m raising her to be much like you. Stand tall we need leaders like you to set examples for our little girls. I’m a Democrate and have been as long as I can remember and a firm believer in Christ the lord.
The Miss America contest was a perfect stage to up hold his name. You were there for a reason
and that was to remind us what this was founded upon and that is freedom of religion. People try to say same sex marriage is the same as blacks and whites getting married, it is not. When blacks and whites get married they are not the same sex.

Donald Trump need to sale the rights to the Miss Amierca contest to someone else. There are a
lot more well known people he could chose from than to pick this guy name Hilton. Since Trump
took over the Miss America contest it has become a laughing stock.

I’m proud of you and how your parents leads you and brought you up in the fear of the Lord. Perez Hilton was mad because he did not get the answer he wants to hear to satisfy and please his EGO and sinful heart. But you have PLEASED THE LORD by standing for what is Biblically right. God Bless!!!

First of all, that was indeed a FAIR QUESTION to ask Miss California. And second, I guess I could respect Miss CA’s opinion, but hurt her chance of winning the title of Miss USA. Nevertheless, she’s more popular now because she spoke her mind.

Personally I think marriage is a PERSONAL matter. I guess when the Bible says marriage should be between a man and a woman thats the view of a God. Not everyone believes in one God. And every individual in this world has their view of who God is. This leads to whose God is the “real” God. I was raised Catholic and I believe that God is not judge, God is kind and God loves ALL people (not just the people who supposedly don’t do anything considered a sin) God is all forgiving.
With that being said, EVERY and ANY consenting adult in love should be able to choose another consenting adult with whom they would care to spend the rest of their life with.
PEOPLE LOVE IS LOVE NO MATTER WHERE YOU FIND IT. RELIGION, SEX, GENDER, POLITICAL VIEW ALL ARE VALID BUT THE HEART DOES NOT SEE THESE WHEN IT FEELS LOVE FOR ANOTHER CONSENTING ADULT THATS HEART FEELS THE SAME.

I think that there are a few issues that should be standalone issues. America is comprised on differing opinions and likewise we should *all* have the ability to voice said opinion. I think that we should be critical of a person’s delivery as much as we are critical of someone’s opinion. What she said is controversial to those who do not agree with her opinion. There’s nothing wrong with that. As there’s nothing wrong with people who agree with her opinion. We should be far more critical of those who deliver opinions in a crass, derogatory manner. We have to in the very least give her props for speaking out on her beliefs (as any one of any opinion if they have that ability they should be complimented) in a well spoken manner even if we disagree with it. Why? Because like it or not, acting out in an angry insulting way only shows how we are lacking as people. But what Perez did was ridiculous. I’m sorry but judging for message alone and disregarding all else shows what sort of person he is: petty. I’ve seen the pictures that have surfaced and I honestly don’t see the issue. But I think that it should provide opportunity of how ridiculous the rules for the pageant can be. They ban partial and completely nude photographs but it breaks its own rules in the swimsuit competition. At least to me it seems silly.

I respect her answer… I respect her honesty… I agree with her… I think it was an inappropriate question for the pageant… I think Perez Hilton is an @$$… But I think that using religion as her reason for her belief is discriminatory and bigoted. The only legitimate excuse to be against same sex marriage is because Marriage has been defined as Man and Woman since it’s conception. Sometimes Man and Woman and Woman and Woman and Woman and Woman and Woman and Woman… But always Man and Woman. There should be another way to join same sex couples that is the equivalent of marriage so that SSC can have the rights afforded us Heterosexual couples. Gay couples should have the same rights my wife and I have… Just not under the name MARRIAGE. Had she answered like that she would have not only won the crown but she would have won the hearts of all Americans, and made America a beacon of progressive thinking amongst the worlds nations.

As I see it, she deserved to lose with the answer she gave.

I know that this is rather late but the manufactured controversy over some semi-nude or even nude photos of Carrie Prejean compels me to offer an opinion. First of all someone named Chris Jensen and a few others were evidently watching the wrong show. Not only did she answer a obviously loaded question (compared to the other contestants questions) unhesitatingly and with grace , even stating that she recognized that in this country there is a choice and that she was alright with that right of choice. She only stated her personal convictions on the subject according to the ways she was brought up and I think that some people thought she was on a soapbox like they thought they would do if in the same situation. The people who run the pageant should have come forward and defend her right to answer in the appropriate way that she did with style and grace without putting anyone down, whether they supported her personal viewpoint or not. The question, although I thought it rather transparent, was asked as all questions were on a personal basis and to expect a public policy answer was reprehensible on the askers part.
As for the photos that have recently emerged, so she posed semi-nude she is a model for christsake. I’m a photographer and almost every model I have ran across has at some point done some sort of semi or fully nude photographs even though hands or other material may be strategically placed to cover parts of the female anatomy. Every photographer I have known has done nude studies of the female form featuring their natural beauty. There are some people who look upon the female figure as something of scorn and would just as soon have all females in a burka, or as an object to be used in a political or social agenda in an attempt to strike a blow against their foes and attempting a public humilation of the subject.
To all you detractors of a perfectly normal, upstanding american girl who only answered a question in a positive and direct manner according to her personal standards….I say shame on all of you ……..The vast majority of Americans are much more savvy than you give them credit for.

Look at her, and listen to her, this is the reason she did not win Miss America. She has fake body parts and thoughts that are not as deep as my gold fish’s. She complains when people attack her, but she did not have a problem making an anouncement that she was taking on a personal attack against a HUGE group of “Americans” She deserves to get everything she gets and I hope she calls into a hole to wait until people forget about her!!

CARRIE…Thanks for standing firm by your own values and ideology, and not pandering to the “left’s extreme viewpoint!” The controversial question was asked from an “attention-seeking judge” who wanted a popular venue to get attention to his weak argument for same sex marriage. Its not discrimination for her to answer this heated topic. Get over it “Perez,” California voted and it was NO !!!

I say she should hold her head high. The gentleperson that asked the question should have never been on the judges panel. I would guess from the media and liberal reaction that FREE SPEECH is something only available for the ELITE and those with a differing viewpoint (85% of the nation) should keep our opinions to ourselves….. Sorry, not so. This young lady should be proud of standing up for her beliefs and stating what she (and we) feel is a moral wrong. Marriage is defined in the Bible as a union of a man and woman. If two people of the same sex want to establish a LEGAL relationship, change the laws to allow for a legal UNION. Don’t trash the Biblical definition of a MARRIAGE to force that type of relationship down EVERYONE’S throat. What about the rights of those of us who believe in the Biblical definition of marriage???? I guess we just have to continue to voice our opinions and stand firm. I’ll get off my soapbox now…………….

What the hell is wrong with you people? Regardless of whether or not you agree with homosexuals, they should still be treated with respect as human beings. And for all you close-minded, one-sided Christians on this wall posting about how homosexuality is a sexual addiction, wtf do you call the Ms. America pageant??? What about some 45-year-old fat single man sitting at home wanking off to Carrie Prejean.. is that ok? You people are so one-sided and close-minded. Christianity is supposed to be about treating your neighbor as yourself and loving one another, so stop judging other people. I think you are all morons who need to realize that there is no black and white in the world. We need to be accepting and loving of each other if we EVER want to get peace in this messed up world.
Christians like you make me sick, and are the reason I am no longer affiliated with that religion… too judgmental, close-minded, and ignorant.

Any kind of prejudice is ok as long as it is included in a religious belief. Today it’s gays. 50 years ago it was blacks. Could we give all the religious morons an island somewhere, or maybe a half dozen states and get them to move there and leave the rest of us alone? The first years of the 21st century, and this country, which is supposed to have, according to the Constitution “no religious test” for holding office, has two presidential candidates who go to be interviewed by a Christian minister seeking his approval. Sick.

Miss Prejean is entitled to her opinion on the social issues as all of us are. She is not, however, entitled to her own opinion as to what lying is. She knowingly lied when she filled out the pagent application. It is funny how people will interpret Gods laws to match their own bad behavior.

Ok, she’s got the fake boobies and gross makeup and maybe she thinks being a porn star is glamorous, but twixt her legs, in the center of her body and mind, even she knows that marriage is something this world’s creatures enjoy in exactly one combination: one male + one female…even she knows that! Even birds and bees know that, it’s not “old fashioned”, it’s the yin-yang of our world’s creation and being.

Never heard of the guy before all of this and from what I’ve seen he appears to be nothing more than a no-talent, pudgy little queen with some serious emotional issues. Funny how this Perez Hilton guy calls her dumb, yet he couldn’t even remember which state contestant won a pageant he just finished judging.

Lets be real here. The majority of Americians don’t believe in gay marriage. There is no reason to pretend. Perez Hilton wanted a pretend answer that accomidated his beliefs, not America’s democratic majority.

When I see a homosexual, I see someone who has fallen into a behavior that ignores the basics of what sex was intended for, to create. Homosexuality is a confused lust that ignores the basic structure of humanity built by generations of people much smarter than the trend following Perez Hilton. It’s a practice the crosses the morals and values of Americia and the hard working people who struggle to keep stable environment for future generations.

Why is homosexuality so active now? Because it’s a trend, it’s “okay”, and it’s an option within reality. What’s next, stealing?

MOST women are hypocritical sluts. Almost every woman alive spends most of their time starting from about the age of 13 throughout their whole lives doing everything possible to attract men.
Everything from dressing provocatively to downright slutty, caking on makeup, lying about almost everything especially their age, playing tease head-games, breast enlargement, a full spectrum of plastic surgeries, etc…etc…etc………
All the while pretending, which is pure lies and deceit, that they are all “good girls”.
BUT when a man actually does look at them they instantly pretend to be oh-so offended.
The pathetic truth is that most women are purely all about lies, deceit, and pretense.
Most women not only don’t know who they are themselves, because their every waking effort is to pretend to be something they absolutely are not, but they also don’t have a clue what they really want. Leave Carrie alone. Truth be known, she is not anymore messed up than most women.
Live and let live. Those of you who pretend to care so much about what Carrie is doing……..Get a life already and start pretending to care about yourself for a change.

Myself not being gay, I applaud Carrie for being honest. I believe that is the correct answer that straight people would give. I personally think that gays should be allowed to marry. They will experience the good and the bad about marriage. The bad being money problems, religious differences, and any kind of difference. I once read in a book about reincarnation that people are born female and the next time, male, then back and forth. However; if a person is born of the same gender over and over again, they eventually become homosexual. How about that. That being the case, should they be discriminated against.
