The first runner-up Miss California USA Carrie Prejean of San Diego was involved in controversy last night at the Miss USA 2009 pageant, when she had to answer a question about same-sex marriages by one of the judges, famous celebrity blogger Perez Hilton.
Perez Hilton: “Vermont recently became the 4th state to legalize same-sex marriage. Do you think every state should follow suit. Why or why not?â€
Carrie Prejean: “Well I think its great that Americans are able to choose one or the other. We live in a land where you can choose same-sex marriage or opposite marriage. And you know what, in my country, in my family, I think that I believe that a marriage should be between a man and a woman. No offense to anybody out there, but that’s how I was raised and that’s how I think it should be between a man and a woman. Thank you very much.â€
This was charged question but it could have been answered gracefully (“I wish for World peace!â€) without causing all this controversy. For the first time in pageant history, a Miss USA contestant was booed by the audience and called a “dumb b*tch†by Perez – congratulations to Carrie Prejean!!
