Freda Payne, Thelma Houston, KC and the Sunshine Band On American Idol (Photos)
Lil Rounds and Anoop Desai were sent home last night. Amongst the special musical guests were David Archuleta, who sang “Touch My Hand” (video here>>), Harry Wayne “KC” Casey (of KC and the Sunshine Band), Thelma Houston and Freda Payne, who sang a medley of their hits “Get Down Tonight,” “Don’t Leave Me this Way” and “Band of Gold.”
I have no idea who these people singing the medley are (I’m too young, OK?!) and what the heck were they doing on American Idol last night but here is a little something about these “idols.” Thank You Wikipedia!
Freda Payne (66 years old) is an American singer and actress best known for her million selling, 1970 hit single, “Band of Gold”. She has also performed in musicals and acted in movies over the years, and briefly was the host of her own TV talk show. Freda is the older sister of former Supremes member, Scherrie Payne.
Thelma Houston (65 years old) is an American singer-songwriter and actress. She scored a number-one hit in 1977 with her cover version of the song “Don’t Leave Me This Way”, which won the 1978 Grammy Award for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance.
KC and the Sunshine Band is an American musical group. Founded in 1973, their style has included funk, R&B, and disco. Their most well known songs include the disco hits “That’s the Way (I Like It)”, “(Shake, Shake, Shake) Shake Your Booty”, “I’m Your Boogie Man”, “Keep It Comin’ Love”, “Get Down Tonight”, “Give It Up”, and “Please Don’t Go”. They took their name from Casey’s last name (“KC”) and the “Sunshine Band” from KC’s home state of Florida (“The Sunshine State”).
