Danny Gokey Goes Home, ‘American Idol’ Finale Set
Three talented men started the night on American Idol, but one of them had to go home after 88 million votes were cast last night by the American people.
Most of America was unsure after last night about who would be going home tonight to set up next week’s finale. Adam Lambert was the favorite coming in, but Kris Allen and Danny Gokey outperformed him last night (Final 3 Live Blog).
To compound the matter last night, the judges, especially Simon Cowell, begged America to vote for Lambert. Many in the media, including this blogger, believe that the producers and show has displayed a bias towards Lambert over the past two months.
An Idol results show would be incomplete without guest performances and lots of filler material. Tonight was no different. The show started with a two minute plug for the new Ben Stiller movie, Night at the Musuem 2.
Then Alicia Keyes did a public service ad for aid in Africa. This was followed by a 12-year old boy named Noah (I believe) performing the R. Kelly song ‘The World’s Greatest.’ The same R. Kelly that was videotaped having sex with a 14-year old girl several years ago. It was rather amusing and sickening to watch a fellow youthful-teen sing the Kelly song.
We were then treated to the beautiful and talented Jordin Sparks (Season 6 winner) singing ‘Battlefield’ from her latest CD. She was splendid and more beautiful than usual tonight in her performance. She has matured very nicely.
In between the celeb performances we saw clips of each contestant’s hometown visits. The highlights being Kris Allen’s emotional hug with his father and a newsanchor woman having Adam Lambert apply her eyeliner. Danny Gokey’s reunion back home was emotional as expected.
We then witnessed perhaps the worst dancer to ever perform on the Idol stage in Katy Perry. She is entertaining, but she has crazy eyes and sadly makes Danny Gokey look like Sammy Davis, Jr. She also, in a continuation of last nights judge’s bias, started her performance wearing a cape that was monogrammed with ‘Adam Lambert’ on the back. Perry is entertaining, kinda cute, and well manufactured. She sang her latest single ‘Waking Up in Vegas.’ The producer on her album should win mega-awards for manufacturing her career, as should Jamie Foxx’s producer.
Finally, we got to the moment we had sat through 52 minutes of filler for, when host Ryan Seacrest got around to announcing the results. The first contestant he announced that would be performing next week was Kris Allen.
This left Danny and Adam as to who would be joining Kris next week. To little suspense, Ryan quickly (amazing huh?) announced that Adam Lambert would be in the finals opposite Kris.
So this meant it was finally the end of the round for the humble and likable Danny Gokey. Gokey, happy to be there, and having enjoyed the entire ride, accepted the news gracely. He then performed one last time.
ELIMINATED: DANNY GOKEY
Next week should be very interesting with Allen and Lambert competing for the victory. Lambert has a strong base and is very talented, but he is perhaps the most polarizing public figure since Hillary Clinton entered the public arena.
I predict most of Gokey’s supporters will turn over to and vote for Kris in the final and set up a potential David like upset against the Goliath of Lambert.

I miss Danny already…completely heartbroken. I think he had the BEST vocals of any of the contestants, but AI has clearly been favoring Adam Lambert for 2 months with best lighting, shots, song placement, judges super fawning over him and cutting on Danny for stupid stuff like his dancing or what he was wearing. Really sickening. Danny Gokey was too good for that show and all the fakery involved in it.
But, I really really miss Danny already!

I think it has been such a fixed American Idol this year, with all the judges going crazy over Adam. Never was he told that he “oversings” which he does. Never was he told that his exorcism-type scream was just plain annoying which it is. And to add salt to the wound, Paula picks the most ridiculous and unforgettable song she could find for Danny, and Simon begs viewers to vote for Adam. Can you say “rigged?” I can, and I think it sucks. Goodbye, Danny Gokey, yes (for now) but goodbye to me ever watching American Idol again.
So fixed…Simon telling the public to vote for Adam! Won’t be watching the final or indeed anymore after that
