Some of the best stories of my life I have either heard or have taken place at a Waffle House.  Now comes word that Yakeisha Ward, a Waffle House waitress in Clarendon County, South Carolina, is charged with assault and battery with intent to kill Crystal Samuels, who was a customer at the local Waffle House and set off Ward by throwing a waffle at her during the dispute.

“I said what is your fuss about. I said we haven’t paid for our food. She (Ward) said well you all got to leave. How you want us to leave and we ain’t paid for the food yet,” says Samuel.

That’s when it got ugly. Samuel says she threw a waffle at the waitress. “I did actually throw some food but it didn’t hit her,” says Samuel. “That’s when she (Ward) jumped across the counter and we got into it,” says Samuel.

Clarendon County Sheriff Randy Garrett says the altercation continued outside where he says Ward got a gun from her car and a gun magazine from her trunk.

“It’s poor judgment on her part trying to settle this matter with a weapon. either way she had time to think about what she was doing when she was walking to her car,” says Garrett.

Investigators say Ward’s gun discharged during the altercation. They say a bullet fragment struck Samuel in the arm.

The best part of the story is that Ward has been working at Waffle House since the incident.  The victim, with a sense of humor, simply said that the Waffle House had “bad customer service.”

I once had a very unattractive Waffle House waitress tell me how she stripped for money once she was off work and that she usually took home nearly $1,000 a night.  I could not believe it based on the product she was putting out there for consumption.

On another occasion in Plaquemine, Louisiana, while studying for law school finals, a Waffle House waitress was flirting with me and sitting down talking to me, when the cook got jealous and came over and sat in my lap.  The waitress and cook came close to exchanging blows.

I studied at that Waffle House in Plaquemine many times over the course of three years and I think they charged me just one time for food.
