A 47 million year-old primate fossil was unrevealed and is considered to be the evolutionary missing link between apes and humans. Darwinius masillae, nicknamed Ida, has become the Holy Grail of science and is the strongest evidence supporting Charles Darwin’s Theory of Evolution.

“This specimen is like finding the Lost Ark for archeologists,” lead scientist Jorn Hurum said at a ceremony at the American Museum of Natural History.

“It is the scientific equivalent of the Holy Grail. This fossil will probably be the one that will be pictured in all textbooks for the next 100 years.”

Ida is a lemur-like primate with opposable thumbs like humans, fingernails instead of claws and hind legs, which suggest evolutionary changes that might have led to primates standing upright.

This fossil was found in Frankfurt, Germany more than 20 years ago. Scientists, who had the privilege to study this fossil, have already called it the eighth wonder of the world! Isn’t Ida just beautiful??
