72 Year-Old Woman Kathryn Winkfein Tasered By Police (Video)
A 72 year-old grandma named Kathryn Winkfein was pulled over for traveling at 60 miles an hour in a 45 mile an hour zone by a police officer, Deputy Chris Bieze. What seemed like a routine traffic stop took a nasty turn when the woman refused to sign the speeding ticket.
“Take me to jail, come on, take me to jail. I’m a 72 year old woman”, then the great grandmother gets out of the truck. The 72 year old woman then states “Give me the ******* thing, I’ll sign it.”, and that is when the traffic officer explodes, and shoves the elderly lady.
Apparently the whining of a poor 72 year-old woman was too much for Mr. Officer – he threatens to taser her and he did. Oh please, how much danger can a grandma represent? The footage of this incident was released in an attempt to justify the use of a Taser gun by the police officer… What Deputy Bieze did is unexplainable abuse of power!

the officer was out ofline and should have waited for great grandma to sign the speeding ticket.
With only a portion of the video, there’s no way for us to know if he was out of line or if he was being reasonable. I had read elsewhere that the whole thing occurred because she refused to sign the speeding ticket. For as trivial as that may be, many states (perhaps all?) require the officer to then take them to jail.
He might be out of line here, or she may have been resisting arrest and belligerent and… ??
Police are so annoying. Why do they have to turn the littlest things into some big deal. What was she doing 65 in a 55? Who cares. Get a life and a degree…and a new accent cop. “IAAAM GONNA TAAASE UUU.” Most grandmas that I know grew up in a time where police didn’t pull people over for nothing, or didn’t make a big deal out of things as if she had a body in the trunk. So, the reason for this woman acting out of line is probably because she was thinking, “What the heck is this kid asking me to get out of the car to sign a ticket? We’re on the side of the road…” Could you imagine if she had a heartattack over this bs?
1. She did not follow orders, causing the officer to step out into the traffic.
2. She resisted arrest after being warned she would be tased.
3. He warned her again that she was going to be tased.
4. She dared the officer to tase her (a threat?)
Sure, she is a 72 yr old woman. I think you’re response would be much different if it had been a younger person. In my opinion, age or gender does not play a role in this situation. The woman was going 15 mph OVER the speed limit; not 5, 7 or 10 but 15. You would think that she would at least be respectful to the officer stopping her.
Next time, for her and anyone else watching the video, you can see clearly the thing to do is to sign the ticket peacefully to avoid being arrested, tased, or both and take matters up with the judge.
As a police officer I am disgusted with this officer’s decision to taser a 72 year old woman. Was this police officer ever trained in the use of force? This OLD LADY’s actions and failure to comply should require no more than a hands on ‘come along”. Was this officer that intimidated by this OLD LADY.
I think the lady was more at risk of being injured by a physical encounter with the officer than being tasered. If you watch the whole video posted elsewhere, she clearly was not acting rationally and was putting herself in danger each time she stepped toward the line of traffic. The officer clearly tries to keep her from that danger. Her behavior in driving too fast in a construction zone put many other lives at risk as well. “Granny” could have prevented being a national news item if she had acted appropriately toward the officer and accepted responsibility for her own actions.
He warned her. She said “I dare you”.
He warned her again and she didn’t listen.
She then refused to put her hands behind her back.
Silly kook got what she wanted and what she deserved!
looking at the tape he pushed her. Then he could not handle her.I wonder what he would do if he didn’t have a taser? Today officers are using tasers to much and not using their people skills.
How would he feel if she died? If she was that bad of a driver then she shouldn’t be on the road.
I think some of you did not see the entire thing. In the full video I saw, She was going 65 in a 45 work zone. She was belligerent the entire time. He put the cuffs on one wrist and she tried to attack, so he could have been injured by traffic or a blow to the head from the cuffs. It is getting so that police are going to be afraid to do their job and criminals will have even less to fear. Police need to lose the power trip, and everyone else needs to be a little more respectful towards police officers.
I believe this woman deserved to be arrested. For being an older person and the driving experience she has; she should know if you do not sign the ticket you will be sent to jail. She refused then resisted arrest by trying to get back in her truck. This woman has no sympathy from me. She thought because of her age she can act like a cocky teenager.
The lady was pulled over for speeding and refused to sign the citation. In Texas, your signature on the citation is a promise to appear in court. If you refuse to sign the citation, you will be arrested and taken immediately before a magistrate to deal with the citation.
She chose to exit her vehicle without the officer’s consent. He did not ask her to exit the vehicle. She put herself in danger of being struck by a passing car when she made this decision. It then fell to the officer to protect her from herself.
At the rear of the truck, she became uncooperative and noncompliant. She refused to follow the officer’s commands. She attempted to reenter her vehicle by entering the flow of traffic. If she had been struck by a vehicle, the blame would fall on the officer and the headline would be “Woman struck and killed while stopped by police.”
The officer constantly put himself between the women and traffic to protect her. He attempted to place her in handcuffs and she pulled away. The restraint techniques police officers are taught involve joint locks and pressure points. These are excellent techniques that are very effective against aggressive young healthy people. When employed against the elderly, they can cause broken bones and torn muscles. It takes four times as long for elderly people to heal as compared to people in their 20s and 30s.
The officer gave her multiple warnings about what would happen if she chose not to comply. The invidual dared the officer to follow through on his warning and he did. The officer used the appropiate level of force for this incident.
