Nerverland Ranch (Neverland Valley Ranch) is a developed property in Santa Barbara County, California, most famous for its association with American pop musician the late Michael Jackson.
The property, which Jackson bought in 1987 and aimed to turn into a fantasy land, is named after an island, Neverland, in the story Peter Pan, where children never grow up. He built a zoo and and a theme park, with a Ferris wheel, merry-go-round, zipper, spider, sea dragon, wave swinger, super slide, dragon wagon kiddie roller coaster, and bumper cars.
It was closed in 2006 after Jackson failed to pay his staff or maintain proper insurance. On May 12, 2008, a foreclosure auction for the ranch was canceled after an investment company, Colony Capital LLC, purchased the loan. On November 11, 2008 Jackson transferred the title to Sycamore Valley Ranch Company LLC, a joint venture between Jackson and an affiliate of Colony Capital LLC.
