Mariah Carey Apologizes For Michael Jackson’s Memorial Performance
Singer/songwriter Mariah Carey apologized to her fans and everyone for her performance of “I’ll Be There” (watch video here) at Michael Jackson’s Memorial Service At the Staples Center in Los Angeles on Tuesday (July 7).
Mariah tries to explain how she was overcome with emotion and how hard it was for her to sing in front of Michael Jackson’s casket. Mariah posted on Twitter the following statement:
“Just recovering from the day. Still filled w/sadness as we listen to KJLH in LA (Stevie Wonder’s radio station) paying tribute to MJ.
Trying to sing today was basically impossible for me. I could barely keep myself from crying. I’m sorry that I wasn’t able to pull it together and really do it right, but I was literally choked up when I saw him there in front of me.
One thing I know is, we will never really have to say goodbye to MJ. His legacy lives on through his music and the millions of people. He inspired with his timeless music. He will be forever in our hearts.”
Mariah was also the first performer to take the stage, which may have added a bit of pressure. It was clear Mariah was fighting back tears and she also seemed to be a little numb.

Mariah was okay!! Trey Lorenz needs to apologize.
I know it was short notice, but don’t agree to sing if you don’t know the song.
It was obvious to me that Mariah had difficulty with the song because of her emotions. I’m sure it had to be very hard to perform unfer those circumstances. Blessings to her, Trey and everyone who performed that day.
It is shocking how Mariah is loved by soo many people and hated by sooo many people, I think the performance was a ‘okay’ it was very emotional to me when she started the song… I mean come on she is HUMAN and none of these singers these days still can sing as good as Mariah… like it or not she is just one of the best ever. no need for an appology
indeed, she doesn’t have to apologize, she did her best on that day, nobody will surely sing a song elegantly for publicity right? so, the haters should not react on her performance. she is a legend though! are you a legend and did you ever contribute any means for our Benefit? think again, she is an extraordinary singer. she sang the song well on MJ’s part, thats all….
