You can’t mix the whorish dancing of “Single Ladies” and the sweet innocence of the dancer’s “thank you” and have a believable combination. The hoochie-coochie dancers of yesteryear would have been jealous at Beyonce Knowles’ pulsing pudenda and ass-slapping. There’s such a thing as sexy and then there’s such a thing as all-out nasty, and Knowles should wipe the little sweet “thank you” off her face after doing a dance to her MVA Video of the Year award and replace it with the all-out lascivious smirk that this performance should have been given.
As for her “shock” at Kanye West’s vile disruption of Taylor Kayne’s heartfelt thanks for Best Female Video to laud Knowles instead, I’ve seen rocks that looked more surprised than Knowles did.
Not to dis the song itself — except for its endless repetition of the few words that comprise it, it’s fierce and fun. It’s just all the crotch-waggling that could have been left out. “Aeorbic?” Surely, you jest.
