Tom Sparks ‘Wipeout’ Contestant Dies (PHOTO)
‘Wipeout’ contestant Tom Sparks has passed away after having a stroke following an injury during an obstacle course challenge for the reality show on November 5. The 33 year-old, who started complaining of knee pain and shortness of breath, was taken to a local hospital and later transferred to Cedars Sinai Medical Center, where he underwent several brain surgeries.
Tom’s father, Billy Sparks, revealed he suffered from a pre-existing condition, antiphospholipid antibody syndrome (APS), a disease that causes unnatural clotting of the blood. Tom, a recent graduate of the USC Annenberg School for Communication & Journalism, was married to his wife Kate for only two months.
“We offer our heartfelt condolences to the family,” a joint ABC/Endemol statement read. “This is a tragic loss and our thoughts are with them at this time.” R.I.P. Tom Sparks!
