Jenny Sanford, who was nominated by Barbara Walters as one of the most fascinating people of 2009 (full list here), has announced she has finally filed for divorce from her husband Mark Sanford after he admitted to having an affair with an Argentine woman, Maria Belen Chapur.

“I am now filing for divorce,” Jenny Sanford said in a statement. “This came after many unsuccessful efforts at reconciliation, yet I am still dedicated to keeping the process that lies ahead peaceful for our family. I remain thankful to so many across this state and nation for their words of encouragement and prayers during this difficult time,” she added. “Please know the boys and I are doing well and are blessed with the incredible support of friends and family and bolstered by our faith and the unfailing love of our God above.”

After the scandal and e-mails between Mark and Maria were revealed, Jenny had already moved out of their mansion but claimed she wanted to try to work things out with her husband. Jenny had found out about the affair a few months before.
