The 10 Most Hated Celebrities of 2009
It’s the last day of the year and time for Bumpshack’s annual list of ‘The 10 Most Hated Celebrities of 2009′ according to myself and some of your favorite celebrity bloggers I surveyed and gathered opinions from for this list.
The inaugural edition of Most Hated Celebs, back in 2006, is one of our most popular posts of all-time. The story was featured on TMZ, hundreds of blogs, radio, tabloids, TV, and was highlighted by my appearance on MSNBC Live.
Several bloggers joined me again this year to help discuss the ‘Most Hated Celebrities,’ as well as many friends, who sent me their lists of who they thought should make the final cut.
Over 32 names were submitted this year for the list and you will find photos and celeb bloggers reasons on why the ‘Top 10′ was so hated in 2009 below. You will also find a bonus list of the ‘Most Hated’ celebs #11-20 (complete with blogger snark as well).
Without further ado here is the ‘Top 10 20 Most Hated Celebrities of 2009′…..
The 10 Most Hated Celebs of 2009
- Kanye West (70 votes, last year #6) – Imma’ let you finish but Kanye West was the ‘Most Hated Celebrity of 2009.’ Kanye – which is Swahili for ‘the only one’ - took egocentricity to a new level in 2009 when he interrupted Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech for Best Female Video at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards to tell the audience “Imma’ let you finish…” that Swift didn’t deserve the award because, “…Beyonce had one of the best videos of all-time.” It’s one thing to take shots at former President Bush over Katrina, but when an intoxicated Kanye attacked the innocent singer/songwriter of broken-hearted, lily peace country songs he outraged dozens of his fellow celebrities and millions of viewers and fans of Swift. Kanye spent the next month crying on Jay Leno’s couch and apologizing every chance he could before the rehab angels summoned him for a 30 day detox. West is the Ty Cobb of Hollywood — extremely talented with beats but almost hated by all. – Bumpshack (Joshua Holmes)
- Chris Brown (56 votes) - Where can we begin with this guy? What’s not to hate? This natural born douche reached an all time low when he beat his [then] woman, Rihanna to a bloody pulp. Later on he had the balls to call her out for sharing her story, saying that it should have remained between the two of them. Brown then released an album after this massive scandal, goes to Walmart and sees it missing from the shelves and blasts the store on Twitter. He then discovered it was sold out (who the hell is buying his crap?!) and deletes his Twitter. I don’t know who I hate more. Chris Brown or the justice system for letting him off with a little trash pick up. No one who beats a woman should be selling albums. – Backseat Cuddler (Jenn G)
- Jon & Kate Gosselin (54 votes) - Jon and Kate Gosselin have always had their fair share of detractors, but having their marriage implode in the media over the last twelve months has this couple on just about everyone’s hate list for 2009. Prior to the breakup Kate was the main attractor of vehement disgust because of her over-bearing personality and brow-beating of the quiet and seemingly innocent Jon. But, getting out from under Kate’s thumb allowed Jon Gosselin to show his true colors – the colors of an 18-year-old college kid that just wanted to get drunk and have sex. Numerous young mistresses surfaced including his “main girl” Hailey Glassman, who even went on a trip with Jon to France for a vacation aboard the “Douchetanic,” a yacht owned by fashion designer and Douchebag icon Christian Audigier. Kate stayed at home trying to keep the show alive while Jon went out and partied and the end result has been a huge increase in the number of people repulsed more by Jon than Kate. Now “Jon and Kate Plus 8” has been reduced to “Jon and Kate Plus Hate” as the world looks down its nose in disgust at the couple that seems to have ruined their own family in the pursuit of money, fame and bong-puffing 22-year-old party girls. – Starcasm (Asa Hawks)
- Spencer Pratt & Heidi Montag (Speidi) (40 votes, last year #2) - Even Al Rocker can’t stand to breathe the same air as Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt. Perhaps it’s the culmination of their stupidity that makes us hate them. These are the morons who confused Jesus with Harry Potter and prayed with Patti Blagojevich for him to use his baby Christ powers to smote Janice Dickinson on “I’m a Celebrity Get Me Outta Here.” While Heidi’s hypocrisy makes kittens cry, her Robodouche of a sidekick flaps his jaws with the impression someone actually cares what crap falls out of the whine hole located in his creepy flesh beard. It’s easy to hate these two and I am pretty sure they were on Bush’s Axis of Evil list. – Hollywood Dame (Cara)
- Tiger Woods (35 votes) - From most complete athlete and family man to party beast with a poor taste for cocktail waitresses, golfer Tiger Woods completely shocked the world when his dark and seedy side was revealed. The 34 year-old married to a beautiful former model, Elin Nordegren, apparently kept a double life of a sex addict, who would do absolutely anything and anyone for another fix, in conflict with the image of the perfect man. Why we hate him? Because he sold us billions of dollars in products, through his endorsements, based on his image when in fact Tiger was even sluttier than Michael Jordan in his prime. – Gossip Teen (Gossip Gal)
- Michael Lohan (23 votes) - I have never seen someone try to gather fame off his children like this man does. Although the ‘jump from the bridge’ stunt on Twitter was from a fake Michael, the real Michael opened up his own account shortly after and started to threaten people that he was going to sue them. I suggest he shouldn’t be such a fame mongrel and stay out of the spotlight. His name dropping and incessant blabbing about Lindsay’s drug addictions that she may or may not have is getting boring. Move on!! – Knocked Up Celebs (Taylor Blue)
- Octomom (21 votes) - Nadya Suleman aka Octomom has become one of the most hated celebrities due to her decision to have fourteen children without having a job to support them. But why should that be Suleman’s concern when she can rely on welfare to feed her children? This woman somehow managed to talk some quack doctor to implant eight embryos when she had six young children at home already. Octomom obviously found her fifteen minutes of fame but at the cost of her own children. This woman also wants to be Angelina Jolie but the only similarity is the big lips and bus load of children. – Stupid Celebrities (Monya)
- The Kardashians (17 votes, last year #15) - Kim Kardashian is certainly toned, and she is definitely very pretty. Yet I see her as a royal diva, the kind that only eats green M&Ms that aren’t visibly touching any other color and refuses to use the bathroom unless there are rose petals in the bowl. If you really think about it, all of these new found riches for the Kardashians can be traced back to one single moment: the release of Kim’s sex tape with D-grade rapper Ray J. If it weren’t for that tape being “leaked,” Kim never would have become famous and her sisters, Khloe and Kourtney, never would have been discovered. It’s time to place the blame with the culprit, Ray J. – Allie Is Wired (Allie Shain)
- Lindsay Lohan (16 votes) – It is often hard to tell if Lindsay is that ‘hated’ or if people just feel so sorry for her and the downward spiral she continues to whistle, smoke, snort, and slide down. Sadly, most fans and observers expect a tragic end to Lindsay’s life, much along the lines of Anna Nicole Smith or Brittany Murphy. Her on-again/off-again girlfriend Samantha Ronson only appears to intensify her instability. Maybe it’s time Linds gave men another chance to screw her life up. Lohan’s mother, Dina, and #6 on this list (see above) have only caused damage to LiLo in their attempts to cash in on their own parasite fame. Her once promising career is lost in the Bermuda Triangle of child stars gone wrong until she can sober up and surround herself with people that will bring her calm and tranquility. – Bumpshack (Joshua Holmes)
- Carrie Prejean (15 votes) - In a world of dualities, Carrie Prejean is the queen. What we hate about her is something we all possess, yet loath about ourselves—hypocrisy. In 2009, we collectively reminded her that those who live in glass Malibu Barbie houses ought not cast stones, lest they shatter another reflective surface from which to admire themselves. – Right Celebrity (Jenivieve Elly)
- Perez Hilton (14 votes, last year #8) - To celebs, Perez Hilton is like the ex-lover who tracks down your new beau to dish all of your dirty secrets. He is what celebs fear may be hiding under their beds at night. There is no such thing as the A-List, just a group of celebs that P-Nasty hasn’t been able to pin down. Why is he hated? Because he is the sultan of snark. – Right Celebrity (Jenivieve Elly)
- John Mayer (11 votes, last year #5) - John’s level of douchery knows no bounds. This man is so deep in the closet he is finding old Christmas presents but is trying so hard to convince us he is straight. He is a like a short bus version of Tom Cruise. If he spent a little more time getting a pedi and little less time threatening NY Mag’s editor with sodomy, Mayer may not be so hated by gossip fans. Hollywood Dame (Cara)
- Adam Lambert (10 votes) – One of the biggest complaints from critics of American Idol is that the stars that erupt from the reality singing contest haven’t paid their dues to the music industry. Lambert proved all of those critics correct when he gave them the middle finger – when he was not making out with his male keyboardist, grabbing women’s crotches, and tripping over his gayliner – at the American Music Awards earlier this year. He also found time in his newfound fame to insult KISS founder Gene Simmons and his decades encrusted $uccess. It is hard to tell if Glambert is talented, or if his antics and dramatics are covering up a mediocre voice. It can pretty well be taken as fact, that as hard as Adam is trying, that he will very likely burn his fame candle out quickly blazing the wick so glam-shockingly fast from both ends. – Bumpshack (Joshua Holmes)
- Tila Tequila (10 votes) - Former reality star and fame-whore extraordinaire Tila Tequila is one of the most hated in Hollywood simply because she is an egocentric, manipulative, yet very naïve girl, who thinks the whole world resolves around her. Tila might actually believe Twitter was invented solely as a mean for her to tell her lies and fulfill her incessant need for attention. From imaginary pregnancies, to engagements and lunatic UStream rants, there’s nothing Tila won’t do for another small taste of her long wasted fifteen minutes. – Gossip Teen (Gossip Gal)
- Joe Jackson (10 votes) - The master mind behind ‘The Jackson 5’ and father of Pop’s brightest star, Michael Jackson, is so hated because of his inability to be a loving, caring father instead of a calculative businessman that looked at his own children like investments. Joe is considered, by many, the ultimate person responsible for the King Of Pop’s tragic fate. What’s not to hate? For the worst reasons, Joe was back in the spotlight again this year, looking cool and cruel, while orchestrating ways to cash in on Michael’s memory even going against some of the last wishes of the late King of Pop. Many fans thought Joe was extremely cold and heartless after the death of his most talented son. Unfortunately, Michael is “worth more dead than when he was alive,” Joe’s words! – Bumpshack (Rita)
- Levi Johnston (8 votes) - This guy has epitomized the term ‘fame whore’ and has done so with all the redneck grease he could find. From exploiting his infant son in GQ, tinkering with porn, to his ‘nuts’ commercial and infamous Playgirl spread. Levi has put himself first in every situation and used his exposure with the Palin family to further his non-career. The only people who don’t hate Levi Johnston have a subscription to Playgirl. I’m just sayin’….. - Backseat Cuddler (Jenn G)
- Joe Francis (8 votes) - The guy that found fame with “Girls Gone Wild” is truly a major douchebag. Francis had no problems making millions off drunken, under-age teen girls that were coerced into flashing for the cameras. Some could argue that these young women chose to flash their boobs and perform sexual acts on camera but we all know Joe Francis and his crew preyed upon young women on Spring Break that were drinking. Joe Francis is also detested because he always seems to wiggle his way out of legal problems even though he is sued constantly, even for rape! And Joe looks even slimier and more disgusting since he was released from prison this last time doesn’t he? – Stupid Celebrities (Monya)
- Lady GaGa (8 votes) - Is there anyone else that is more ‘freaky’ than Lady Gaga? Everyone loves to hate her, from the outfits she wears to the unpredictable things she does. Maybe it’s her attitude that she doesn’t really care what anyone else says and will continue doing it to drive everyone bonkers. She knows what it takes to make people talk about her and just for that reason I hate her. I know what my New Year’s resolution is…to see more clothes on Lady Gaga. – TEN Gossip (Taylor Blue)
- Mariah Carey (8 votes) - I don’t know that I can really hate Mariah Carey because the mere sight of her brings me so much amusement. She poses harder than Victoria Beckham when she walks through LAX. Mariah always needs 15 people to carry and pawn all over hert. On top of all that, you add her marriage to Nick Cannon-who seems smitten not with his wife, but with being ‘Mr. Carey.’ Now we are subjected to their photo-ops: Here they are getting on a plane! Getting off a plane! Frolicking on a beach! Groan. It’s tired and played…just like Mariah’s weave. - Hollywood Dame (Crista)
- Courtney Love (7 votes) - Courtney Love’s history isn’t exactly littered with sunshine and rainbows, but in 2009 the former Hole front woman went from an object of curiosity to a most hated celebrity. She started out the year with barely readable yet vitriolic MySpace and Twitter assaults against designer Dawn Simorangski, which landed Court in court for a libel lawsuit. She eventually deleted her Twitter account, but took to Facebook this fall to accuse Jamie Spears of molesting his daughter Britney Spears. But the true demise of love for Courtney happened this December when she lost custody of her teenage daughter with deceased husband Kurt Cobain, Frances Bean Cobain. Frances was also granted a restraining order against her mother, and legal documents referenced sealed information about alleged domestic violence Courtney inflicted on FB. In response to all this legal drama, Courtney took to Facebook, of course, to attack her daughter. People may have been sick of Courtney’s antics already, but when we found out she was really damaging her daughter, our hearts really turned cold towards the has-been rock star. – Starcasm (Carrie Glass)

For the very first time Paris Hilton – Most Hated Celeb of 2006 and Most Hated Celeb of 2008- didn’t win the honor as the most hated celeb. In fact she only received 6 votes total this year.

I don’t agree with much in this article. Like for a quick example: The Kardashians. Apparently all it takes in Hollywood these days is to make a sex tape with a C-list entertainer and wahla!..you’re a celebrity!
Kim has never shown any true glimpses of talent to act or sing to justify her as a celebrity. I think she is a beautiful woman, but there are plenty of beautiful women in the world, that don’t get this much attention..
..and the article says to blame Ray J? LOL..blame the idiot media for snapping photo shots at this woman. Ray J didn’t put her on a pedestal like this..the media did..
Where’s Megan Fox on the list? All you ever heard this year was people getting upset over the stupidest comments she would make. She should have been at least somewhere in the top 5. If you hate her or not she made a lot of headlines that got people talking.
Other than that the list was pretty good.
There is nothing to justify Kim Kardashian’s fame, or that of her family. Her father was OJ’s attorney and she made a sex video, and now for some reason she has a reality show, calendar, millions of fans, etc. It just makes me a bit sad for humanity. As James said, blame the stupid media.

I don’t agree with you saying what’s not to hate about chris brown….he made a mistake, but what’s not to hate??? How about amazing music. which is really all that matters.
Are you freaking kidding me? Ok, I agree with most of these, but where’s britney spears? I mean I guess everyone likes the fakeness, or the synthazed voice. She has no real talent except for having kids. Oh, now she is bipolar, and is wanting to be mom of the year, give me a break!! I guess she can explain to them later why mom has music videos of there “mom” wearing nothing, and whining!! Should I go on?
The proof that this list is bogus lies in Lady Gaga making it. She has had huge success, even as snobbish bloggers and critics trash her. Even some so-called artists dig at her. Yet, she remains positive about everyone she talks about. She has class and grace under pressure. She also walks her talk on gay rights. The day after Obama tried to suck up to her at the human rights dinner, by joking he was honored to “open” for her, she calls him out the next day, screaming “Are you listening?” in front of thousands of people at the gay rights rally. She speaks truth to power and isn’t afraid to take on the anointed one himself for not walking his talk. She has courage on top of her tremendous talent. (Obama still has done jack**** on the “don’t ask don’t tell” policy in the military.)

This list could have garnered some credibility but failed due to the “Great Pretender” or as his brainless subjects like to call him, “The Anointed One” , didn’t even make the top 20 list at all? Gimme a break, this clown and his two braindead court jesters Pelosi & Reed should have been ranked 1,2 & 3 respectively. What Hollywood celeb can make the claim they duped millions and millions of voters into giving him a 4 year lease on their Whitehouse??? What’s really sad is that a large majority of his “duped subjects” still don’t nor ever will realize they have egg on their faces. Others won’t be able to admit to themselves or the public that they were suckered by a world class con man and will go on blaming right wing extremist for conspiring to disrupt their little egotistical worlds.

Tiger is not hated by his golf partners. They were all quiet, because they are all doing the same thing. They are not going speak up in his defense. They taught this young golfer the ropes. They didn’t know how inexperienced he was. He got caught. So you should not hater the player. You should hate the game. No one hated Barbara Walters when she disclosed her African American lover she was sneaking around for years and who was prominent and married. Not until she wrote a tell all book. If you bought your daughter that stuff it’s your fault not Miley Cyrus’s. I’m not a fan of Miley Cyrus. Don’t really care one way or another, but she is not the one raising your child. But seeing how you have already called your own child a “whore”. I can’t tell her worst problem isn’t being a fan of Miley Cyrus.
