Troubled Jayson Williams in DUI Wreck
Embattled former NBA star Jayson Williams was reportedly in a DUI wreck last night in New York City.
The New York Police Department said it appeared Williams may have been drinking before the accident at 3:15 a.m. this morning on a northbound exit of the FDR Drive. However, he has not been charged.
Williams was in the passenger seat when officers arrived. But witnesses told police they saw him on the driver’s side. Officers said no one else was in the car.
Williams was taken to a local hospital after he hit a tree, that didn’t move. He has been in and out of court over the past decade for accidentally shooting his limo driver and then covering up the events.
Witnesses testified that Williams was showing off a shotgun in his bedroom in February 2002 when he snapped the weapon shut and it fired one shot that struck a hired driver, Costas Christofi, in the chest. They also testified that Williams initially placed the gun in the dead man’s hands and instructed those present to lie about what happened.
Williams was hurt in the DUI accident last night, but there has been no report on the seriousness of his injuries.
