Country music legend Charlie Daniels suffered a mild stroke while snowmobiling in Colorado on January 17th.  He noticed something wasn’t quite right and alerted his snowmobile party that he needed to get help and to a hospital.

They were over 15 miles from their vehicles and another 30 min + from the hospital.  Here is how Charlie described when he realized what was happening to him:

I noticed that my left hand was getting numb and thought that it was because I had been hanging on to the handle bars of my snowmobile for so long that it had gone to sleep, but then I felt the left side of my mouth starting growing numb and my left foot started getting hard to control and I knew something was happening to me. I knew I’d better get back down the mountain and get some help.

I told Cy how I was feeling and we immediately headed to the trailhead, for the longest 15-mile snowmobile ride I ever hope to take.

Daniels was transported over 45 minutes to get the proper care he needed from the stroke:

He was treated at Mercy Regional Medical Center in Durango, CO then airlifted to Swedish Medical Center in Denver, CO. Daniels was released from Swedish Medical Center on Sunday, Jan. 17th and returned to his home in Colorado, where he has been on vacation since Dec. 27th.
