RIP, Pernell Roberts.
Pernell Roberts was chosen for a leading role in “Bonanza” and he played the part in a grand fashion. As Adam Cartwright he was the eldest son, and to Little Joe he was a teacher, a counselor, he defended him when he was in trouble and was at his bedside when he was sick or injured. Adam was a role model for Little Joe in that whatever he did, Little Joe did also, even to how his gun belt was placed around his waist, the way he stood and looked when Adam was beside him. There was a bond of love and caring that grew stronger as time went on. Adam, Hoss and Little Joe played like kids in the mud and did other crazy things, but what are brothers supposed to do but this. They had arguments and troubles like we all do, but they stuck together as a family. Adam was bold and courageous to take on gangs who wreaked havoc for the townspeople and he knew how justice was done and he did it. Outside of acting he was a singer and the sound of his voice was calm and relaxing to hear. He appeared in night shows on TV, one of them being the Mike Douglas show. He did parts in TV programs such as Hawaii Five O, Mission Impossible and many others. When he left “Bonanza” Hollywood producers were shocked but Pernell wanted to do more and that was when he took the lead role in “Trapper John, MD”. He was a handsome and a very attractive man and he chose to live life just like other people, not caring about fame and riches. When he died we lost someone that we can call a cherished friend. Thanks Pernell for all that you did for us. You wont be forgotten.
