Simon Cowell’s departure from American Idol has been announced a long time ago but it’s now official. Simon wants to bring “The X-Factor” to America and absolutely kill the competition. He is reportedly offering his former fellow AI judge Paula Abdul a staggering $4.5 million contract, which is still below the $10 million demand she made to stay on Idol.

A source told the National Enquirer, “Simon flew Paula to London and wined and dined her relentlessly over the course of several days, even introducing her to everyone who works on X Factor. But what really clinched the deal was Simon’s pledge that she wouldn’t have to deal with all the nonsense and infighting that she hated on Idol.”

Simon will reportedly leave “American Idol” this season in May to start working as a judge and executive producer on the US version of his “The X-Factor”, which is set to premiere in 2011. Can Idol survive without both Paula Abdul and Simon Cowell? We do not think so…

Former MLB star Mark McGwire admitted he used steroids when he broke the home run record back in 1998 in a statement released on Monday (January 11).

“I wish I had never touched steroids.” McGwire said in a statement. “It was foolish and it was a mistake. I truly apologize. Looking back, I wish I had never played during the steroid era.”

“During the mid-’90s, I went on the DL seven times and missed 228 games over five years,” McGwire said in the statement. “I experienced a lot of injuries, including a ribcage strain, a torn left heel muscle, a stress fracture of the left heel, and a torn right heel muscle. It was definitely a miserable bunch of years, and I told myself that steroids could help me recover faster. I thought they would help me heal and prevent injuries, too.”

“Baseball is really different now — it’s been cleaned up,” McGwire said. “The commissioner and the players’ association implemented testing and they cracked down, and I’m glad they did.”

Mark decided to come clean now because he wants to become hitting coach of the St. Louis Cardinals. In fact, Mark confessed to have used steroids on and off for nearly a decade but a close source to the player also claimed he used a human growth hormone.

The 19 year-old daughter of quarterback Joe Namath, Olivia Namath, was arrested for possession of marijuana under 20 grams, possession of alcohol by a minor, and possession of marijuana with intent to sell in Miami on Monday (January 11).

Olivia was driving her silver Mercedes was stopped by a police officer, who asked for her driver’s license, but when he reportedly smelled weed he asked her and both of the two passengers to exit the vehicle.

During the search of the teenager’s car, a bag of pot was found in the driver’s floor board and there was a collection of small bags of weed that weighed more than 200 grams on the truck of the car, which also carried an open bottle of Captain Morgan’s rum, and 11 cans of beer.

Canadian musician Michael Bublé is officially engaged to his Argentinian model/actress girlfriend, Luisana Loreley Lopilato de la Torre (sexy photos below). “Michael proposed to his girlfriend, Luisana, in November, in front of her family in Argentina,” rep Liz Rosenberg says. “They’re ecstatic. They’re adorable, in love and laugh all day long.”

The couple met at a party after one of his concerts in Buenos Aires back in November 2008 and Michael confessed it was love at first sight. They want to keep their relationship low-key but Luisana tries to travel with her lover as much as she possibly can. The 22 year-old actress starred in hit soap operas in Argentina and is currently working on “Atraccion x4” and a new movie titled “Plumiferos”. Luisana will accompany her fiancé to New York for his performance as special musical guest on Saturday Night Live on January 30.

Michael was previously engaged to singer/actress Debbie Timuss and had a relationship with actress Emily Blunt for more than two years before splitting up in 2008. Luisana and Michael have not set a wedding date yet. Congratulations to the happy couple!!

Senator Harry Reid, who is well known for been an avid defender of civil rights, has already apologized for referring to President Barack Obama as “light-skinned” with no “Negro Dialect” in private conversations during the 2008 presidential campaign.

But Michael Steele, the first African American chairman of the Republican National Committee, defends those comments are racist and it doesn’t matter from which side they came from. Steele requested that the Republican Senator is forced to resign following the example of Trent Lott, who resigned after racist comments back in 2002.

“I think he should,” said Steele. “There is a standard where Democrats think they can say these things and apologize when it comes from the mouth of their own. But if it comes from anyone else, it’s racism. It’s either racist or it’s not. And it’s inappropriate, absolutely. So if the standard is the one we saw with Trent Lott as leader at the time, then I think this absolutely falls in that category here. … Remember, this is the same leader who just a few weeks ago was talking about health care in the context of slavery. Clearly he is out of touch.”

As we first reported “Deal Or No Deal” host Howie Madel will replace David Hasselhoff, whose contact was not renewed due to his alcoholism problem, as a judge in the popular talent show “America’s Got Talent”. NBC has announced the end of the primetime Jay Leno Show on February 11 after it failed to achieve the expected ratings for that time slot. NBC plans to keep all their late night hosts with “The Jay Leno Show” at 11:35, “The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien” at 12:05 and, finally the “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” would start at 1:05.

“Starting Feb. 12, The Jay Leno Show will no longer air at 10 p.m.,” network chairman Jeff Gaspin said. “While it was performing at acceptable levels for the network, it did not meet our affiliates’ needs, and we realized we had to make a change. My goal right now is to keep Jay, Conan [O'Brien] and Jimmy [Fallon] as part of our late-night lineup.”

NBC’s chairman admitted that the three talk show hosts “were incredibly gracious and professional” when told about the possible big changes in the late night schedule. Actress Minka Kelly and Yankees star Derek Jeter, who have still not confirmed they are engaged or even dating, reportedly set a wedding date for November 5, 2010, which is exactly two days after the end of the World Series, according to the NY Post.

The “Jeter Wedding” will take place at the Oheka Castle, where Kevin Jonas and Danielle Deleasa tied the knot (photos here), in Huntington, Long Island. This hasn’t been officially confirmed. Derek and Minka were recently caught frolicking in the crystal blue waters of St. Barts (photos below).
