Former Memphis State Basketball Coach Dana Kirk Dies
Former Memphis State Tigers basketball coach Dana Kirk passed away on Monday, at Methodist Hospital in Memphis, from a heart attack. Kirk was 74 and is survived by his wife, Denise McCrary.
Kirk led the Tigers to the 1985 Final Four (the first of two vacated Final Fours in school history) and racked up a 158-58 record as the Tigers coach from 1979-1986. He was convicted of tax evasion the following year and served time in prison. Keith Lee, from the 1985 team, testified at Kirk’s trial to receiving as much as $40,000 from Kirk to play ball at Memphis.
