Kevin Eubanks Leaving Jay Leno and Tonight Show
Tonight Show band-leader Kevin Eubanks is splitting company with Jay Leno and The Tonight Show after fifteen years leading the band. He has been on the show since Leno took over in 1992 as lead guitarist. Eubanks took over as band-leader when Branford Marsalis left the show in 1995.
Mr. Eubanks has told colleagues on the show that he will definitely leave his post as leader of what will be a reconstituted “Tonight Show” band (after their brief run as the “Prime Time Band” while Mr. Leno had his 10 p.m. weeknight show) after an interim transition period starting March 1.
Leno and Eubanks have always had great chemistry. It will be interesting to see how long it will take Leno to find that same chemistry with a new Tonight Show band leader.
