The American Idol Season 9 Top 12 girls performed for the first time live on the Idol stage on Tuesday (February 23). Janell Wheeler, one of our favorites, didn’t quite own Heart’s “What About Love” because the song was too BIG and she didn’t hit the high notes (watch video below). Once again the judges agreed it lacked originality, which is kind of hard to achieve with such powerful emblematic songs.

Simon Cowell, who discovered Leona in the British X-Factor, was very harsh saying that he sees her as someone who sings other people’s songs and not very well. OUCH!

Paige Miles was the first to take the stage to sing the classic “wedding singer” song “Alright Now” by Free (watch video below). The judges agreed that her voice is fantastic and probably the best voice in the competition but they expected more from her. Although we haven’t seen much of Paige during the auditions, she definitely deserved her spot in the Top 24.
The American Idol Season 9 fantastic Top 24 will take the stage for the first time to perform live this week. The twelve girls will be the first to debut on Idol tonight and the boys will take over on Wednesday (February 24). The results will be announced in the special results show on Thursday (February 25).
The Big Lead is reporting that ESPN, the World-Wide Leader in (Selective) Political Correctness, has suspended Pardon The Interruption’sTony Kornheiser for his comments last week about ESPN SportCenter anchor Hannah Storm.
Tony simply stated his opinion about an outfit Storm had worn while anchoring the morning edition of SportsCenter last week:
“Hannah Storm in a horrifying, horrifying outfit today. She’s got on red go-go boots and a catholic school plaid skirt … way too short for somebody in her 40s or maybe early 50s by now. She’s got on her typically very, very tight shirt. She looks like she has sausage casing wrapping around her upper body … I know she’s very good, and I’m not supposed to be critical of ESPN people, so I won’t … but Hannah Storm … come on now! Stop! What are you doing? … She’s what I would call a Holden Caulfield fantasy at this point.”
Does ESPN really want to turn into my Church of Christ high school that held us all to a strict dress code: girl skirts had to be below the knee, long pants, guys hair had to be above the collar (they would pull the wave and curl in our hair down to see if we were in violation, which lets this curly headed fro-boy in a world of trouble. A battle I won though)? I doubt it.
Tony should be able to say what he wants about ESPN talent without fearing the corporate reaper.
Hannah does come across as an aging cougar attempting to squeeze into Britney Spears’ costume from her vintage rookie music video for ‘Oops I Did It Again,’ but she is visually refreshing between all of the repetitive sports highlights on SportsCenter AM.
ESPN should just steer clear of what its anchors are wearing in much the same way that Fox News does with their buffet of lip-glossed blonde bombshell hosts.
The ‘Worldwide Leader’ should avoid becoming ‘Big Brother’ and give its talking heads freedom to talk. Just months ago ESPN banned Bill Simmons from Tweeting after his Tweet about an ESPN affiliate.
The length of Tony’s suspension will likely only be a few days. Kornheiser apologized to Storm via his radio show the next day.
American Idol Chris Golightly, who had made it to the top 24, was disqualified after producers of the show discovered he was still linked to a contract with recording company, Dream Projects Entertainment.
Chris signed this contract exactly one month before auditioning (watch video here) but guaranteed he would have no recording or management commitments by the time he got to the semifinals. Idol had no mercy and cut the “Orphan” out.
Idol hopeful strikes back. Chris claims he was released from his DPE contract before the “Idol” deadline and now begs for another chance on American Idol. Chris, who was replaced on Idol’s top 24 by Tim Urban, will hold a press conference at 9:30 am PST on Tuesday (February 23).
The famous Jolie-Pitt twins, Vivienne Marcheline and Knox Leon (19 months old), made a rare public appearance while being carried by their gorgeous parents, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, leaving Venice, Italy, and getting ready enjoy some family time in Paris, France. Figure skating Olympic champion Evan Lysacek is rumored to be dating Olympic gymnast Nastia Liukin, who is in Vancouver to support him at the 2010 Winter Olympic Games. Evan won the gold medal on men’s figure skating on Thursday (February 18).
People Magazine confirmed the two Olympic champions, who met on NBC’s special Skating & Gymnastics Spectacular back in October 2008, have been dating since last summer. The story has been retracted. An article of their close friendship now replaces the love story.
Nastia said, “We met a couple of years ago at a gymnastics and skating show. We’ve gotten to know each other really well and [are] able to connect because there’s nothing like the Olympics. We both know what it takes to try for the ultimate dream of being an Olympic champion.”
“We just became really good friends and become really close since then,” adds Nastia. They attended the ESPYs together last July, and in August, Evan went to Dallas to cheer on Nastia during her gymnastics comeback at the U.S. Nationals. “It was cool but nerve-racking watching her compete – to be on the balance beam like that? For me, it’s easier to do it then watch it,” says Evan.
Nastia tells that finally watching her dear “friend” win the medal was amazing but that she was nervous. Evan also recognized he could not have done it without Nastia’s help.
“She been so helpful to me,” adds Evan. “She has been through it herself. If I’m having a bad day, she tells me to have faith and to keep going. Sometimes your support system has more faith in you than yourself. And when she tells me things are going to be fine, I really believe it.”
That sounds pretty much like love to me! Evan is probably not in love with Nastia yet but a close relationship like the two seem to share is bound to develop into something more serious. In a recent interview for ET, Evan said, “I’m single. I haven’t had any time for dating while I’m training. I’m lonely.”
Actress AnnaLynne McCord followed Katharine McPhee’s footsteps and posed in a tiny bikini to show off her fantastic body on the cover of the latest issue of Shape Magazine (March 2010). The 22 year-old 90210 star was also chosen to cover Shape’s special Sexiest Bodies In Hollywood issue (photos below).
In the interview, AnnaLynne professes her love for Taco Bell (who would have thought she actually eats!?! GASP!) and her secrets for a great cheap workout routine. AnnaLynne must be the only girl in LA that doesn’t have a gym membership. It’s refreshing! Here are some highlights:
On her love for Taco Bell Mexican Pizzas: “My mom told me she used to eat one every single day when she was pregnant with me. [laughs] I’m like, ‘Mom, you’re the reason I’m totally addicted to Taco Bell!”
On finding ways to work out outside of the gym: “When I first moved to L.A., I didn’t have a lot of money to join a gym or take classes, so I improvised. My sister and I went to the library and looked over their DVD collection and discovered Neena and Veena, these Egyptian twins who have a whole series of belly dancing routines. We did them all. When you’re shaking your booty, you can’t help but feel beautiful and sexy.
The 18 year-old Natalee Holloway went missing on May 30, 2005, during a high school graduation trip to the Caribbean island of Aruba and the last person to see her alive was Dutch student Joran van der Sloot, who initially said he had nothing to do with her disappearance (photos below). Natalee’s body was never found.
In a new confession, Joran, who is scared of being prosecuted, admits to disposing Natalee’s body after she began shaking uncontrollably and died while they were kissing in a marsh in Aruba. However, this is not the first time Joran confessed but no evidence has been found to confirm his story. The authorities believe that Joran might be giving multiple false versions of the incident to hide the truth.
“It became clear that this statement is hold together by lies and fantasy,” Chief prosecutor Peter Blanken said. “Times are wrong and named witnesses have denied.” Blanken added, “If she was left there, the chances of finding her are extremely small. After several days, nothing would have been found except bones and maybe a plastic shoe.”
Natalee’s body was never recovered. No one knows what really happened to the missing American student. Is she alive? Natalee is most probably dead. But Joran has been linked to sex trafficking net, where he allegedly sold Thai women and girls into prostitution.
